Did you miss out on the Kill Team Octarius box? Well good news – it’s sort of back. There’s a new Kill Team Starter box and it’s looking awfully familiar.

GenCon 2021 is going on and Games Workshop is unloading the reveals. We’ve got a look at the new starter set for Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team and it’s, uh… ‘Not’ Octarius? Just take a look.

“The Kill Team Starter Set is the easiest way to learn the game, as it’s been designed specifically for new players. It comes with a Recruit Edition booklet – a 56-page how-to-play guide including a series of tutorial missions – as well as a compact version of the game’s full Core Book and all the tokens you’ll need to play.”

On top of that, the box also contains a double-sided card gameboard, orky terrain and two full kill teams – Ork Kommandos and the Death Korps of Krieg.

At this point, if you’re like me, then you’re probably doing a double-take and thinking “wait, how is this not the Octarius boxed set?” Well to answer that, the contents aren’t exactly a 1:1 reprint. Here’s a look at the Octarius box contents so you can compare:

The rulebook in the Starter is the “compact” version, it doesn’t have all the same bells and whistles (like cards and dice), and the terrain set is essentially just the scatter terrain and not the full-on Orky encampment. This starter set is likely going to be cheaper than the Octarius box by a wide margin as well. The Starter will be a cheaper way to get into the game and will also be a cheaper way of getting all the components vs purchasing them individually. And yes, the Kommados and Death Korps are getting new boxed sets, too!

So once again to reiterate, this is the new Starter box – it’s not the same as the Octarius box. The Octarius launch box wasn’t meant to stick around forever, once it’s sold out it’s gone for good. You might still find it from your local retail and, if you do, you might want to snag it because it’s quite a deal. But if you’re looking for the product that’s going to be restocked for starting out Kill Team it’s this new Starter Set.

It’s the new STARTER box, not the Octarius LAUNCH box? Okay, I get it now.
