What does the future look like for 3.0?

Age of Sigmar 3.0 came out with a bang, with the release of Dominion, a new breed of Stormcast, and the brand new Kruleboyz joining the Orruk Warclans adding a lot of exciting new things to the game. But of course, as incredible as all this is, we are left with the burning question; what comes next? We know that a new Chaos faction is on the way, and of course we’ll see some new battleboxes, but what’s the roadmap for new faction updates? Thankfully, a few reputable rumor engines have compiled a few theories, and if everything comes true as they’ve predicted, we’re looking at a pretty fabulous end of 2021 and start of 2022.

For a detailed description, check out the video by Nine Inch Charge.

New Battletomes

According to the rumors, several older battletomes (and unfortunately a few newer ones) are going to get a big update towards the end of the year, including a few we’ve been crying for quite some time. The Gloomspite Gitz, Ogor Mawtribes, and the long-forgotten Maggotkin of Nurgle and Beasts of Chaos are rumored to be getting an updated book, and with that (hopefully) comes new models to bring these guys up to speed. I will fully admit to being most excited about the Beasts since they have been underperforming in the meta for quite some time and deserve some love, but all the factions could use the updates, so I hope this all pans out.

Battlebox

Speaking of the Beasts of Chaos, the rumor claims that they will be featured in the next battle box, fighting against the Spiderfang Gitz. As with all Battleboxes, both of these factions will get some shiny new models, and rumor says the Gitz will get a brand new Spiderboss, and the Beasts will get not only a new Doombull but new Bullgors and a Jabberslythe! Again, as a die-hard Beasts player, I hope this turns out to be accurate, as the current Doombull is woefully outdated and needs an update, and new monsters are always welcome in the new world of Age of Sig-monster.

New Factions

Perhaps the most exciting rumors are the brand new factions that will be coming to the game, including a few we’ve wanted since AoS 1.0. Alongside the Dawnbringer Crusades, which look to be a rehash of the Cities of Sigmar for a more expansionist theme, we’ll be getting River Temple Lumineth. But perhaps most exciting are the two “dark” armies, Malerion’s Umbraneth and a new faction called Oathbreakers, believed to be the long-awaited Chaos Dwarves. Lore rumors speak to Archaon using massive cannons to break down the gates of Azyr and hit Sigmar in his own backyard, and the Chaos Dwarves are just the lads to help with that. We’ll have to wait a while to see if this all pans out, but it’s enough to get excited for!
