D&D: WotC Announces New Books Delayed

Citing issues with “goblins” Wizards of the Coast have recently announced that both its upcoming 2021 D&D books will be delayed. Details here.

Wizards of the Coast recently announced that its two upcoming books, Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos and Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons will be delayed, owing to “goblin related issues” per a tweet from the official @Wizards_DnD account:

Due to what we can only describe as “goblin related issues”, there will be a slight delay in our schedule affecting the following releases:

Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons – Oct. 26

Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos – Dec. 7

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Fizban’s Treasury will be delayed a week, while Strixhaven: Curriculum of Chaos is pushed back three weeks. The delay affects both physical and digital releases.

This marks the second recent delay for Wizards of the Coast. The first came shortly after they announced the Rules Expansion Gift Set, and then immediately announced that the set had been delayed to January 2022 instead of its original Holiday 2021 release date.

The gift set introduces a new book, Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse. The book is full of updated monster rules and stat block changes (some of which have already been previewed).

It’s little surprise these days– many industries have been hit with significant delays owing to a disruption of shipping and supply chain shortages. Printing has taken a pretty big hit in particular, as printer capacity issues multiply the extant supply chain problems.

Even so, the delays aren’t as difficult as the early days of the pandemic. Barring another big boat getting stuck in the Suez Canal, both books should still be out for 2021.

Assuming that there aren’t any further “goblin-related issues.” If there are, presumably a party of 1st-level adventurers could make about 200gp and 300 XP for solving it.
