What is the big green mean machine getting in part 2 of War Zone Octarius? We’ve got a list and it’s looking pretty solid for the Orks!

Games Workshop has spilled the beans on what you can expect for the new War Zone Octarius Book 2: Critical Mass and it sounds like the Orks are about to get another boost. Continuing the battle in one of the hotly contested war zones, Critical Mass adds the Orky perspective in a big way.

“Along with the galaxy-shaking conclusion to this epic conflict, the book contains a codex supplement for the Blood Axes, updated Index rules for Rogue Trader crews, a Speed Freeks Army of Renown, and rules for embarking on an Octarius Sector Campaign with new Legendary missions, branching mission trees, and powerful Crusade relics up for grabs. On top of that, there are also rules for using looted vehicles in Ork Crusade armies – no Rhino will ever be safe again!”

Sure there is some other things in that paragraph but here’s what the orks are getting:

  • Codex supplement: Blood Axes
  • Speed Freeks Army of Renown
  • Rules for using looted vehicles in Ork Crusade armies

First up, the Blood Axes getting a codex supplement is good. These Orky Commandos were about due for an update once the ork kommando models got updated in the previous Kill Team box.

Hopefully the supplement will load the Blood Axes up with some shiny new gear to match that crazy kit with all the extras. It should be a welcome addition for ork players that use Kommandos in their lists.

The Speed Freeks are also getting an Army of Renown and this one could be a real game changer. The were already doing some crazy stuff on the tabletop with their buggies and trukks – so what will a fully mounted and thematic ork army do? We’ll have to wait to find out! But it’s probably a safe bet that the restrictions you’ll have to work within to build a Speed Freeks Army of Renown will 100% be worth it. Get ready to see a spike in ork speed with the release of this new book.

Looted Vehicles are sounding like they might be limited to Ork Crusade Armies. I’m very curious as to how this is going to play out just because when the looted vehicle rules are essentially removed from competitive play most players don’t use them. Honestly, it’s probably for the best due to balance reasons. Anyone who remembers the old Vehicle Design Rules knows how busted those things could be. That said, Crusade Armies seem to bridge the gap between narrative and matched play and if the looted vehicle rules aren’t too over the top maybe we’ll see them get adopted – or at least considered to be usable in the competitive scene. Just don’t get your hopes up…yet.

The Orks are one of the more recent armies to get a codex so seeing them get some more love with Critical Mass is great for Ork player. Will these extra rules be enough to shake things up even more? We won’t have to wait too much longer to find out!
