The Typhoid Trio is back in a big way.

The new Maggotkin of Nurgle battletome has officially hit shelves, and many of their heavy hitters are back with some gnarly new abilities. We’ve already talked about how incredible the new Glottkin are, but they aren’t the only trio of champions making squishy waves in the Mortal Realms. I’m talking, of course, about the Maggoth Lords, three of Nurgle’s most powerful mortal agents, who ride disgusting Maggoths into battle and gift their enemies with copious helpings of their Grandfather’s gifts. Here’s a quick review of some of the changes in the new book and why you’ll definitely want to snag at least one of them for your Maggotkin armies.

The combat monster of the three, Orghotts has had all of his destructive potential turned up to 11, setting him up as one of the most destructive non-daemon models in the book. Like the other Maggoth Lords, his mount’s attacks have been ramped up to 3+/2+ with -2 Rend and 3 damage apiece, and he has traded in his situational extra attacks on the charge for a flat 7 attacks, which have also had their damage increased to 2. As the primary leader of the Maggoths, he has the Warmaster ability, allowing him to count as an additional general, and he can issue a single command to a friendly Nurgle unit every turn for free. And just in case you were worried about his durability, his wounds have been increased to 14, and since he has Disgustingly Resilient now, his Acid Ichor ability has been upgraded to throw it a mortal wound whenever he rolls an unmodified Ward Save of 6, rather than when he takes damage. His axes don’t throw out mortals anymore, but with the Diseased Weapons ability, he can still lay the pain on thick, so this guy will definitely see his way into a ton of lists.

Bloab Rotspawned

Where Orghotts is the melee power of the trio, Bloab is the arcane might and the only member of the three warriors that is a wizard. He also saw a wounds increase up to 13, and his mount’s acidic vomit gained a boost to hit rolls. The swarm of flies that infest his frame now trigger in both the combat phase AND the enemy shooting phase rather than just your hero phase, and they throw out a mortal wound in addition to the -1 hit, meaning you can weaken a unit twice over, and making Bloab a real threat in combat, which is rare for a Wizard. His unique spell is unchanged, but the dolorous bells he carries now buff his own spellcasting in addition to debuffing his opponents, so he can more consistently count on his nasty spells. Pop an Arcane Tome on him and watch the bile fly as he tears apart whatever you point him at.

Morbidex Twiceborn

The most daemonic of the Maggoth Lords, Morbidex is basically an oversized Nurgling, and his affinity with his smaller kin makes him the perfect support piece for a daemon-heavy army. While his combat prowess isn’t anything spectacular, his resilience is something to behold, as he heals half the wounds that have been dealt to him (rounded up) at the end of EVERY battleshock phase in addition to the heal from Disgustingly Resilient. He can also bring back a single base of Nurgling Swarms within 7″, making them a dangerous screen unit for your more significant threats or a particularly annoying roadblock. He is probably the least effective of the three, but he’s still a worthy consideration if you plan to include a lot of Nurglings in your army.

Will you be adding a Maggoth Lord to your army?
