Critical Role’s Tal’Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn promises to take adventurers back to a familiar corner of Exandria–sooner than you think!

Tal’Dorei is at the heart and soul of Critical Role’s 1st campaign. It was the continent that served as many a Critter’s first introduction to the wider world of Exandria, with its ancient magic empires, warring gods, and magics that affect both time and gravity.

It was also Critical Role’s first foray into the world of D&D sourcebook publishing, and though the original has been out of print for quite some time, Critical Role–through their publishing imprint Darrington Press–is revisiting the familiar corner of their world once more with Tal’Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn. The new sourcebook, promises to be a “significant expansion and improvement” of the nigh unavailable first sourcebook. And with a team of veteran D&D designers, the new sourcebook looks packed with new stuff, including new subclasses, magic items, and more.

Let’s take a look at the book and get a closer glimpse of what awaits within.

Created by lead designers Matthew Mercer (Critical Role Game Master and Chief Creative Officer), Hannah Rose (Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount, The Wild Beyond the Witchlight, Mythic Odysseys of Theros), and James J. Haeck (Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount, Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus), the continent of Tal’Dorei’s locations, people, creatures, and character options are beautifully presented and ready to use at anyone’s table. The updated sourcebook is a significant expansion and improvement of the popular and out-of-print original Tal’Dorei Campaign Setting, with newly crafted creatures, subclasses, magic items, and more designed for the 5th edition ruleset. Additional contributions are provided by Critical Role cast members Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Liam O’Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, and Travis Willingham; as well as John Stavropoulos (Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft, X-Card, Wizards of the Coast: Game Design Coach) and Aabria Iyengar (Exandria Unlimited, Misfits and Magic, Pirates of Salt Bay).

Tal’Dorei, a continent within Exandria (the world created by Game Master Matthew Mercer and the cast of Critical Role), was first explored through the adventures of Critical Role’s first campaign, Vox Machina, and is brimming with epic stories of heroes and adventurers — and eagerly awaiting adventures of your own. Taking place two decades following Vox Machina’s conclusion, this sourcebook outlines how Tal’Dorei has changed and progressed leading up to the start of Critical Role’s second campaign, The Mighty Nein. Soar on a skyship from the metropolis of Emon, home to the Tal’Dorei Council, to the distant haven of Whitestone; explore the lush wilderness in between, meeting monsters and wayward mages; and uncover magic items ranging from simple trinkets to the legendary Vestiges of Divergence. How will you shape the future of Tal’Dorei? The land’s fate is in your hands.

The book is chock full of gorgeous art, which has come to be par for the course for all things Critical Role. Throughout the article, you’ll find samples of the intricately detailed pieces which fill the upcoming book. But in addition to art, you’ll find:

  • A guide to each major region of Tal’Dorei, with story hooks to fuel your campaign
  • Expanded character options, including 9 subclasses and 5 backgrounds
  • Magic items such as the Vestiges of Divergence, which are legendary artifacts that grow in power with their wielders
  • Dozens of creatures, many featured in Critical Role’s livestreamed campaigns
  • New lore and updated stat blocks for each member of Vox Machina
  • A gorgeous 18”x24” foldout poster map
