Warhammer 40K: Custodes Name Generator and Crusade Rules

3 Minute Read
Dec 23 2021

Time to play the Name Game with the Custodes thanks to this handy new name generator. Plus we get a Crusade Rules teaser for them!

Just in time to start prepping for the impending codex release Games Workshop has revealed a new name Generator for the Adeptus Custodes and how you can use it to greater effect in your Crusade Army. For the uninitiated, Custodes members get another name every time they carry out a great and/or noble deed. Some Custodes members have names that are over 100 long! Thankfully, this random name generator has plenty to go around.

It’s not just a title either. These names have an in game effect if you decide to spend some of your Requisition Points on them, too:

” And what’s in a name? Benefits that you can choose each time you claim this requisition to add a new one.”

That’s both thematic and useful — exactly why we like the Crusade Army rules in the first place! Now, if you want to earn the RP from those Crusade Missions the Custodes also have some Imperatives to help with that.

“Custodes bow to no word in the Imperium save that of the Emperor himself. Under this unquestionable jurisdiction, they can pursue imperatives as they see fit. If your army is led by a Shield Captain, or Trajann Valoris himself, you can choose to commence an Endeavour, which consists of picking three Imperatives and pursuing them in order.”

So if you do choose to and also complete the Endeavour you’ll earn some sizable rewards to match the effort:

“You must complete all your Endeavours within nine games of claiming Magisterium Lex Ultima. If you fail, you will be forced to select a Dishonour, the Custodes equivalent of being told your eyes are too big for your tummy. One example is Petition the Tower of Hegemon.”

So yeah – the clock is ticking. You better keep those objectives in mind when you are playing your games.

While the codex has been pushed back, you can get your hands on the first wave of new Custodes rules with the new Shadow Throne Boxed set. Which is out now from Games Workshop.

Shadow Throne $170

Deep beneath the surface of humanity’s Throneworld, the agents of the inquisition have made a horrifying discovery – a Genestealer Cult has taken root amidst the shadows, spreading its malignant tendrils across Holy Terra. Such a threat to the Imperium’s heart cannot be permitted, and so Blade Champion Aristothes Carvellan leads an elite force to purge the xenos threat. So begins a nightmare subterranean war against the beast known as the Begetor and its mutated brood.

Whether you’re a long term defender of the Imperium, or a fledgling Cult acolyte, this box contains two exclusive miniatures, plus a force for both the Adeptus Custodes and Genestealer Cults, meaning you’ll be able to kick off your own recreation of the Unthinkable War on Terra, or fold these reinforcements into an existing army.
