Let’s Play D&D With Catwoman

Catwoman would be a purrfect addition to your next D&D campaign. So this week, we’re inviting her to steal all of the items at our D&D table.

Catwoman is one of those characters who is always relevant and always popular. You don’t even need to like Batman to know that Selina Kyle is the cat’s meow.

She is also nearly too perfect for Dungeons & Dragons. This is one of those characters you could create and play for your next campaign and there’s a decent chance that the people at your table wouldn’t realize that your Selina is supposed to be THAT Selina for at least a few sessions.

But let’s be honest. The bad-joke groans from your party members when they did realize may be the best part.

Making Catwoman a Tabaxi feels really on the nose initially. It’s sort of too obvious of a joke in that funny-at-the-table sort of way. But it also works.

Tabaxi traits make up for just about every gadget she would usually use. And there aren’t a lot of them to start with! Natural cat claws easily replace the clawed gloves that Catwoman often wears. Darkvision makes goggles a little superfulous… but I gave them to her anyway. For the aesthetic.

From there she may be the most Rogue-Thief to ever Rogue-Thief their way through pop culture. Overthinking her class or subclass would have made the character too complex and detract from what makes her fun. So I just stuck with the classic.

Unfortunately, Rogue isn’t a class that has proficiency in Whip, and for Selina Kyle, who’s signature weapon is the whip, that just would not do. For this we turn to feats (I could have duel classed her or just fudged the proficiency, but again… why?).

The Weapon Master feat let me pick up up to four weapon proficiencies. Fortunately, the only one she was missing for my purposes was the whip, so if you decided to play this character for yourself, you have three more free weapon proficiencies to add.

I also took the Burglar feat, because of course, and Stealthy. Both are suited for the exact kind of character she is. Burglar is a little redundant with the class and subclass I’ve selected, but it does come with a nice Dexterity boost. And Stealthy lets you move around while remaining hidden.

In the immortal words of Devo, “Whip it, Whip it good.”

For gear, the leather catsuit doubles nicely as leather armor, and like I said before, the goggles are a part of her aesthetic that I like too much to ignore. Maybe your DM will let you use them for something beside Darkvision. She likely also has thieves tools, maybe a disguise kit, she has the skills in them after all.

How would you make Catwoman for D&D? Which version of the character is your favorite? What movie, show, comic, or game should I make sheets from next time? Let us know in the comments!

Happy Adventuring!
