We’ve got our hands on the new Aeldari Codex. Here’s our initial impressions.

It’s a good sign when our very own Goatboy thinks a Codex doesn’t really have any bad options in it. He’s gotten to spend some time with the book and here’s what he thinks:

Aeldari Have Options

When the one of the Codex is 200 pages long with around 90 pages of rules, there’s just too much stuff inside for it NOT to be good. It might take a little bit of time to discover all the tricks and options but they are in there. Between all the units, stratagems, new mechanics, just sheet weight of stuff players are going to find what works. This is really the first “Marine-sized” book we’ve seen for something not in power armor and it shows.

This codex is going to bring out some of the old units (looking at you Wave Serpents) and give them some new value. If you’ve been camping on an Aeldari army from back in the day, it might be time to bust them out once again and give them a spin. We’re also excited to see the new Guardian models. Specifically the Storm Guardians. It’s causing us to have flashbacks of the old Foot-dar lists from editions ago. Who knows — maybe this could be the book that reignites some old flames and we’ll see the return of a different flavor of lists again.

We’re excited to see what the future holds for the Aeldari in the meta. They’ve got the tools to get the job done. Now it’s going to be up to the players to figure out how to fit all the pieces they need into lists and cook up some success with them. And hey, we’re not even getting into the options with the Ynnari and Harlequins here. But rest assured those things are also in the book. The Aeldari are going to come out of the Webway swinging!

The Aeldari once ruled the galaxy, before their civilisation collapsed under the weight of their hedonism. Now they are a dying and fractured race, their differing factions all finding ways to survive in a galaxy where their extinction seems inevitable. Inside this 200-page hardback book, you’ll find:

– Majestic artwork depicting many aspects this once-great and still awe-inspiring civilization, from fearsome Aspect Warriors to roguish Corsairs
– All the rules you need to play an Aeldari army, be they craftworlders, Ynarri, Harlequins, Corsairs, or a mix, including 57 datasheets, from the war-forged Avatar of Khaine to the rank and file Guardian Defenders
