The Shining Spears got a major update with the new models and their rule are almost as shiny!

I’ll be straight with you: I wasn’t thrilled about the new Shining Spears. Personally, I was hoping some of the other Aspect Warriors got the nod to get new plastic kits before them. But, like the song says, “you can’t always get what you want.” Anyhow, let’s give these Shining Spears there due and see what they can do for you on the tabletop.

“Once your jetbikers have reached their targets, they’ll melt through armour and flesh alike with devastating thrusts from their laser lances. These weapons are vastly more powerful on the turn they charge – spearing even a Space Marine with a single blow – and are backed up by a blistering hail of firepower from upgraded shuriken weaponry.”

These Laser Lances are no joke. They hit plenty hard in both the shooting and melee phase. Either option can cut through armor with ease and, at 2 damage per hit, even elite infantry are going to want to avoid their wrath. They are even nastier on the charge with that bonus +3 strength. So now you might be wondering, “well that’s great on the charge so how do I pull that off?” Good question. The answer it to play Saim-Hann.

The Red Ones Go Fasta

Saim-Hann is the Craftworld for speed and if you want to ensure you get a crazy first turn charge off then it’s the best option for the Shining Spears. To kick things into high gear check out their Attribute: Wild Host.

A re-roll to charge and the option to Fall Back and charge is pretty great for the Shining Spears. Don’t forget about that charge bonus for them! The Shining Spears themselves also have a 16″ move and a guaranteed 6″ when they Advance. That’s a 22″ move…but we’re just getting rolling.

“A unit can’t normally Advance and then charge in the same turn, but Saim-Hann comes in clutch with their unique Stratagem – Warriors of the Raging Winds. This is the final piece of the puzzle that will get you stuck in before the enemy knows what’s hit them, delivering lance tips up close and personal.”

And there it is. Doing some quick math, with the charge move that’s a threat range of 24″-34″ inches in a single turn. Good luck avoiding these Shining Spears! Oh wait… you really can’t. But it’s just a fast unit that hits hard. Good thing they don’t have any other rules to help keep them punching above their weight class…right? Did we mention they are CORE? Which means an Autuarch or Farseer can give them some sweet Aeldari buffs. How can they possibly keep up though?

Slap them on the Sunstorm, a relic Jetbike. Because sometimes you just gotta go fast. Oh and of course jetbikes have FLY as well. Don’t forget how good that keyword is.

I hope you’re ready for the new Aeldari Codex because it’s flying down the pipe, 5×5!

What do you think of the Shining Spears? Are you going to give them a go in a Saim-Hann army?
