The warriors of Warhammer: Underworlds are headed to the Eightpoints of Warhammer: Warcry in the Tome of Champions!

Get ready for a peanut butter/chocolate mix-and-mash-up situation in the Warhammer: Age of Sigmar skirmish battle scene. Warcry and Underworlds are crossing the streams thanks to the new Tome of Champions 2021 (and yes, they know it’s 2022 but ‘timey-wimey, wibbly wobbly’ — and also delays). How are these games handling this crossover? By bringing your warbands from Underworlds into the Eightpoints of Warcry!

via Warhammer Community

“These ragtag rivals are more numerous than ever following the tumultuous events of Broken Realms, and now they’re being joined by some new pals. That’s right – your favourite fighters from Warhammer Underworlds are making their way from the desolate prisons of the Katophrane Curse to the desolate arena of the Bloodwind Spoil. Hooray!”

You Got Your Underworlds In My Warcry…

At a very high level what’s going on is simple. The new Tome of Champions is coming out soon and inside the covers will be rules to run your favorite Underworlds models as warriors in Warcry. Simple, right? These champions will be called Bladeborn Fighters.  You’ll have the option to include the entire warband from Underworlds in your Warcry uh…warband. Or you can just take the individual fighters you want. There are  restrictions on which warbands they can join based on runemarks. But don’t worry — that will all make more sense soon enough.

Each fighter is also a specific character so you can only include one copy of them in your warband. Sorry, no all-crab warbands called the Sons of Duinclaw. Although…

Sorry, where was I? Oh right. You don’t have to include them as full members of your warband, either. You can ally members in by taking Bladeborn Leader as an ally. Then they get to bring their buddies along at a discount.

Upsides And Downsides

The Bladeborn fighters do have some additional restrictions thanks to that pesky Katophraine Curse. At least in Narrative Play.

“Bladeborn fighters are also suffering from a rather nasty curse you may have heard of – so if you’re using them in Narrative Play, you’ll find some additional rules for the aftermath sequence.”

No injury rolls…but no advancement either.

All-in-all, this seems like a neat way to include some cool models into your Warcry warband. The two teasers we did see for these Underworlds fighters were pretty impressive. So they might not need much in terms of advancement to make a big impact.

And hey, if you were already playing Underworlds, then this is one less barrier to entry for Warcry. Take your warbands out of the arena and to the skirmish-scale tabletop for some fights in the Eightpoints of Warcry!

I kind of want to check out the Tome of Champions 2021 now…
