The Fantasy Grounds implementation is licensed by and produced in-house at Smiteworks.

If you haven’t yet checked out either of these books, they are a complete revamp of D&D. The ruleset is designed to be compatible with 5th Edition rules – though as you play you’ll probably find that monsters from the advanced set stand out from other design. Here’s a little about each of the titles available now on Fantasy Grounds.

Level Up Adventurer’s Guide

This book contains the core rules of the game — character creation, adventuring, equipment, combat, spells, and more.
In this standalone guide to Level Up, the advanced roleplaying game, you will find everything you need to play. Create diverse and unique heroes, engage in epic combat with villainous foes, and more!

This core rulebook includes:

    • A unique origin system which allows you to select your heritage, culture, background, and destiny!
    • Full rules for combat and adventuring!
    • Hundreds of spells (including dozens of new ones), combat maneuvers, exploration knacks, and other exciting abilities!
    • A standalone, advanced rule system which adds depth to the core 5th Edition rules while maintaining full compatibility.

This contains reimagined character classes, including more complex martial characters. If you’ve ever played a Fighter or Rogue and wanted to do more than just make an attack, this system has options and opportunities that support a variety of play styles. Ranged, melee, weird maneuvers, you’ll find it here. You’ll also find new spells and “rare spells” which act as special treasure for spellcasting classes to play.

Level Up Monstrous Menagerie

This product, spearheaded by Paul Hughes of the Blog of Holding, completely revamps the 5E monsters you already know with new monster math, CR calculations, encounter building rules, variants, and useful tables for each monster such as names, signs, behavior, lair features, encounters, treasure, and more. Read more about our monster tools.

The Monstrous Menagerie provides nearly 600 monsters, variants, monster templates, and hordes for your Level Up: Advanced 5th Edition game. Populate your game world with classic monsters ranging from the lowly stirge to the terrifying tarrasque, along with new horrors like the khalkos and the phase monster. Challenge even the mightiest adventurers with elite monsters like great wyrm dragons and the Medusa Queen. Use simple templates to create new monsters like zombie sea serpents and merfolk alchemists. Overwhelm opposition with stat blocks representing hordes of guards, skeletons, or demons.

Along with each monster’s game statistics, you’ll find monster behavior and adventure hooks, treasure, monster names, and more. The Monstrous Menagerie includes guidelines for designing challenging encounters and even building new monsters from scratch.

Inside this tome you’ll find monsters with redone math. A CR system that reflects their actual power, with new actions, lore, and more. It’s easily one of the best manuals of monsters out there right now.

Happy Adventuring!
