According to Chris Pine, the upcoming D&D movie is fun, feel-good fantasy, like Game of Thrones and Princess Bride.

Things have been relatively quiet about the new D&D movie, slated for release in 2023. Quiet until Chris Pine spoke to Collider about the upcoming movie, that is. Pine shared details about the movie’s overall tone, evoking three different fantasy staples. The Princess Bride, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and Game of Thrones.

Chris Pine’s Thoughts on the D&D Movie

Pine, who kept the interview with Collider‘s Steve Weintraub as spoiler free as possible, revealed that the movie is a good deal more fun than you might expect:

“Oh man. Well, what I will say is we had a hell of a fun time making it. There was a lot of laughs. The way that I’ve been describing it, it’s like Game of Thrones mixed with a little Princess Bride, just a smidge of Holy Grail; it’s somewhere in that ballpark. It’s a lot of fun.”

Pine went on to add that there’s a “bit of Goonies” in the film as well. Which should come as no surprise, considering the movie’s directors, Jonathans Goldstein and Francis-Daley. Both Johns are responsible for Spider-Man: Homecoming, the second-best Spider-Man movie.

But, humor and heart seem to be in store for the D&D movie as well. Pine, who described his character as “the ultimate party planner” couldn’t stop commenting on how much fun he had making the film.

This bodes well for the film, which had the monumental task of attempting to be both a D&D Movie and also Good.

A task nobody has managed to date.

The film’s other cast members, including Regé Jean-Page and Michelle Rodriguez, have also spoken highly of their experience. Jean-Page believes the film will be a sigh of fresh air for D&D players the world over.
