It’s a me! Mario! Coming to Universal Studios Hollywood next year when Super Nintendo World opens its doors.

If you’ve been to Universal Studios Hollywood in the last year you’ve probably noticed some park-adding construction. The park never officially announced what the new section would be. But thanks to a recent announcement we know, officially, that Super Nintendo World will soon be open to anyone looking for a new castle the save the princess in, or a Mario Kart to race.

Just a year ago in 2021 Super Nintendo World joined the Universal Studios Japan family, and we were all rightfully jealous. Between a Mario Kart ride, Yoshi’s Adventure, and chef Toad cooking up all of the Mushroom Kingdom’s delicacies, it looks like a must-see spot when we all manage to make it out to Japan. Of course, between airfare prices and travel restrictions it didn’t seem like that would happen for most of us for a very long time.

So it’s especially exciting that a version of Super Nintendo World in this hemisphere soon!

The official statement from Nintendo describes the upcoming park as an “innovative, immersive and highly-anticipated themed land.”

“Super Nintendo World was conceived in partnership with Nintendo and the visionaries at Universal Creative to deliver exhilarating entertainment with innovative technological achievements inspired by characters and video games that have appealed to generations of Nintendo fans for over 40 years.

The immersive land will be a visual spectacle of vibrant colors and architectural ingenuity located within a newly expanded area of the theme park, featuring a groundbreaking ride and interactive areas, to be enjoyed by the whole family. Themed shopping and dining will enhance the entire experience.”

The Park Experience

But what can we expect to see in Hollywood’s Super Nintendo World? Well, aside from the vibrancy of the colors and ingenuity of the architecture, they aren’t getting super specific. We haven’t seen new park designs, maps, or art. But it’s probably fair to think that we can look to the existing Super Nintendo World in Japan.

There a life-size Mario Kart course lets fans race, while a slower Yoshi’s Island ride is better for lower-octane gamers. There’s also an augmented reality aspect to parts of the park to make you feel like you’re in Mario’s World. Plus, all of the food, merch, and very cool architecture that Universal always includes in their parks.

Universal Studios Hollywood isn’t the only park with an incoming turtle shell or two. A Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Orlando has been in the works for some time. And another is planned for Universal Studios Singapore.

We’ll have to wait until next year to see what the newest Super Nintendo World will look like. But it’s probably safe to say that whether you’ve been a fan of Mario since the eighties or you bought your first gaming system this week, everyone will find many things to enjoy.
