What’s up with this fancy Anhrathe keyword? Let’s dig into how to use the Voidscarred in your Aeldari Army.

The new Pirate Corsairs are coming in Kill Team: Nachmund. We got a look at what they can do in that system and now we’re getting a better idea of how to bring them into your Aeldari Army propper. They represent a new faction and have a keyword to match: Anhrathe. So how will that work if you want to include them? Let’s find out.

via Warhammer Community

“Corsair Voidreavers are a Troops choice. Each unit contains between four and nine, plus a Felarch to lead them. Corsair Voidscarred are Elites who can use all the characters and kit you get on their option-packed sprue.

Because these capricious Aeldari rarely fight as part of a Craftworld’s primary host, they cannot be used as a compulsory selection in a Detachment that requires either Troops or Elites – unless that Detachment only contains <Anhrathe> units. “

Well that’s neat and all. I’m glad they can be fielded as either a Troop or Elite option… but with that restriction they are going to need something extra to fit into a Detachment, right? Oh well, I guess we’ll have to call it there. If only there was a like a Pirate Prince character or someone to lead them.

Prince Yriel

Oh, right! Whew, man so glad GW had that in their back pocket…

Okay okay, we all knew that was coming. So yes, if you want to run the Corsairs in a Detachment you’re going to be able to choose Yriel as the HQ option. He also happens to have the Anhrathe Keyword, too. Kinda makes you wonder if GW is planning on do a whole Pirate Corsair Army later. It’s not like they ever add sub-fractions to the Aeldari and them completely ignore them for an edition.

Oh…right.

Anyways! The Corsairs actually have some pretty cool equipment and options to match.

“Every model in a squad is armed as standard with plasma grenades, a trusty shuriken pistol, and an elegant aeldari power sword. Making use of years of swashbuckling experience, their Reavers of the Void ability lets them automatically wound their foes on a hit roll of a 6.”

6s to-hit auto wound and also count as 6s for the to-wound roll. That’s actually pretty spicy as there are things that trigger of unmodified 6s for the army. Plus, that’s just the start of their wargear list:

“Both varieties of Corsair have more than their share of heavier wargear options, but the Voidscarred really shine on the tabletop. They can include specialists such as the psychically gifted Soul Weaver and Way Seeker, or the close-combat fiend Shade Runner. They may also arm up with long rifles, wraithcannons, blasters, shredders, melee weapons, and even a Faolchú, an avian spotter which can be used to deny the effects of light cover.”

Seriously, that’s a LOT of wargear options. If you take a unit with a Way Seeker you’ll also have access to the Runes of Fate discipline, too. There’s also the Soul Weaver who can help with keep the unit alive, and then there’s the Shade Runner who’s got a nasty ability, too:

The Shade Runner is also packing Hekatarii Blades which have 4 attacks with a 2+ WS and an AP of -3. So…yeah, pretty deadly!

The Corsair unit is going to be a fun one to build, paint, and get on the tabletop no matter how you want to run them. Your first crack at them will be in Kill Team: Nachmund. And they are getting full rules in Codex: Aeldari, too!

What do you think of the Corsairs?
