Someone has a makeshift croquet mallet in today’s Rumor Engine. Either that or it’s a wooden maul made from a tree stump.

It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for a new Rumor Engine from Games Workshop. The Rumor Engine itself seems to be working normally as we’re getting a teaser from the (possibly) far future or GW releases. Today’s image is a strange one. Perhaps it’s best if you take a look for yourself.

“Fresh tests on the Rumour Engine have implied that it might not be a gallery from the future, as the Engine itself seems to have no idea what it’s actually sending us. Our most expert Enginologists suspect that whoever made it was surely playing an elaborate prank.”

So what the heck are we looking at? For starters, it certainly looks like a makeshift mallet. We’ve got what appears to be a tree stump and it’s been spiked with some sort of rod which has then been attached to something else. I should say it’s been attached shoddlely to some other rod to extend the reach. The stump appears to have been nailed into place as well. I’m not a master carpenter or anything but even I can tell this doesn’t appear to be very well constructed.

So who would use such a thing?! Well, we may have a few clues on work with. For starters, the shoddy construction is a big clue. We’ve also got that stump — and it’s hard to tell, but is that a mushroom on it? And then there’s the checkered pattern.

Supposing that IS a mushroom, combined with the checkered pattern I’m starting to think this could be something Orky. Or perhaps Orrucky…or Gloomy…

Mushrooms and checkered patterns? It’s a possibility.

To be fair, the Gloomspite Gitz aren’t the only ones who use a checkered pattern on their armour. There’s a few Orruks that do as well as some Orks from 40k, too. But the also fit the “shoddy construction” motif as well.

I mean, the mallet might break after a solid hit but that doesn’t mean I’d like to be the target or anything.

But that’s just our theory about the origins of this mallet. If you’ve got some we’d love to read them in the comments! Let us know what you make of this makeshift croquet mallet and who could be wielding it!
