Is this peak Cage? Find out in the One of Us crew’s The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent review.

In The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, actor Nicholas Cage, the man, the myth, the meme, plays the role of a lifetime – himself. Sort of. Here he plays the meta-fictional Nic Cage, a once popular movie star whose career has stalled. Nic can’t find work, his (fictional) wife is divorcing him, his (fictional) teenage daughter hates him, and he’s up to his eyeballs in (non-fictional) debt. Desperate for cash, Nick accepts an offer of $1M for a single day of work. All he has to do is fly to Majorca and attend the birthday party of his biggest fan, billionaire Javi Gutierrez.

Shortly after arriving in Majorca, Nick is approached by CIA agents. They tell him adorkable fanboy Javi is also the head of a ruthless cartel who is holding the daughter of a politician somewhere on his compound. Nicholas Cage, the creator (and sole practitioner) of the nouveau shamanic school of acting must give his greatest performance in order to play a make believe version of himself who is forced to become a real life version of the fictional action heroes that the real Nicholas Cage only pretends to be in real life. Or something like that.
