Games Workshop is showcasing some of the new rules for the the Chaos Knights today and how they are getting a new trick thanks to the chaos gods. Soon, your Chaos Knights will be rewarded for hitting their kill tallies with a favour from the dark gods!

“Battle-forged armies containing a Chaos Knights Detachment can grant a Favour of the Dark Gods to any Knight in their army. That model gains the keyword associated with its patron god, as well as a powerful new ability – and even a Favoured ability, which you’ll unlock by reaching a certain tally of kills. Naturally, the bigger your Knight, the more kills you’ll need to offer before the gods take notice.”

How this new system works is pretty simple. Based on the size of your Chaos Knight, they can hit the kill requirements for a activating their particular dark god’s favour. In total, there are 15 different favours to choose from. Each one has an associated points cost/power rating you have to pay to add the option to the unit. You won’t be double up on the various favours either — so no picking your favorite favour and applying it to every Knight in your army.

The Favours of the Dark Gods

So now that we have a general idea of how these favours are activated what exactly are they going to do on the tabletop? We’ve got three different examples to check out.

You might remember the Blood Shield from the previous version. It was a once per game ability that essentially shut off invulnerable saves for the user and any targets in melee. It could be extremely handy for taking out a hard target with an invulnerable save. Well, the new favoured ability that comes with it allows you to activate the Blood Shield TWICE a game now.

For fans of Slaanesh the Subjugator Machine Spirit allows for it’s bearer to count as having Remained Stationary regardless if it advanced or fell back this turn. That’s already pretty good for upping the mobility. But once you hit your kill tally, it also allows the bear to charge in the same turn it advanced or fell back. That’s quite the curveball to throw in the form of a massive Chaos Knight!

Are you a big fan of Be’lakor? Well if you want to devote your Knight to a particular shadowy demigod you’ll be rewarded handsomely. For starters, when this bearer is attacked, the attackers can’t re-roll the hit, wound, or damage roll. That’s kind of a big deal! With the amount of re-rolls in the game shutting those off is going to be pretty advantageous. And once you hit your kill tally, the Knight also gains a new ability. They can’t be HIT on attack rolls of 1-3, regardless of the attacker’s abilities! Again, this favour seems pretty good overall — to bad you can’t give it to all your Chaos Knights at once.

As we mentioned above there are 15 favours to choose from so you should find a fwe that suit your needs. The Chaos Knight book is coming soon to a tabletop near you!
