There are a few warriors of the page that deserve their time on the battlefield.

Games Workshop has a long history of incredible narrative characters. The various authors that write their fiction have introduced no small number of iconic heroes. Gotrek and Felix, Grey Seer Thanquol, and Gardus Steelsoul come to mind. They’re literary heroes that have made their mark on the battlefields of the Realms.

Now, we’re getting two brand new legends, Cado Ezechiar and Drekki Flynt. These heroes, along with their book, will be arriving on the battlefield soon. But I think there are a few other book heroes that deserve a little time in the sun, even if they already had it back in Fantasy. Here are three heroes of lore that I think would make awesome AoS heroes.

Genevieve

A reluctant Lahmian vampire and Empire hero, Genevieve has lived countless lifetimes and been party to some of the most dynamic moments in Warhammer history. She helped thwart an assassination attempt on Karl Franz, she defeated the dark sorcerer Drachenfel, and she fought in the war that broke the world. While he physical body is quite young, she has shown incredible martial and tactical skill. While I doubt she’d want to fight for the Soulblighted, Nagash would definitely want her on his side. Likely, he would give her to Neferata just to be spiteful. Still, I’d love to see her as either a Stormcast hero or a Dawnbringer auxiliary, once again fighting to protect Order in spite of her nature.

Malus Darkblade

One of the most iconic Druchi heroes of old, Malus Darkblade was a warrior of great renown. Wielding the demonic Warpsword of Khaine, he was able to sacrifice his body to the demon Tz’arkan to unleash incredible carnage on the battlefield. His series of novels tell of how he acquired his legendary weapon and set about eliminating his treacherous siblings to claim dominion over Hag Graef.

His actions and battle prowess earned him the respect of Malekith, a lofty prospect, and he was his right hand on the battlefield. While he did die at the Breaking of the World, restoring his soul would likely be of little consequence to the Shadow King Malerion, should he wish it. I would especially love to see him return with some of the taint of Tz’arkan still there, a warrior combining the skill and cunning of the Umbraneth with the raw strength of a daemon.

Alith Anar

The other contender for Shadow King, Alith Anar would likely take great insult at Morathi’s ascension specifically. I doubt he would fight for the Lumineth in their current iteration. But he would make an awesome Stormcast or Dawnbringer leader. Perhaps he would even forget his old enmities and join Malerion in retaking Ulgu from Morathi. They were allies once, after all, and it’s possible the ancient loyalties would mean something. Unlikely as that is, I’d love to see it.

What heroes would you like to see on the battlefield?
