The Sylvaneth Spiteriders have new rules to match their brand new models. Check out what they can do for Alarielle’s Army.

When Games Workshop announced the Sylvaneth Spiteriders I got excited to see what they would do. Adding a fast flying calvary style unit to that army gives it more options. Plus, GW went the “spirit” route with them instead of the “treekin” route which I also appreciate. Today, we’re getting a closer look at a few of their rules. So let’s dive into the Spiterider’s and their high-flying antics.

“Above the stomping Treelords and cruel Dryads fly the Spiterider Lancers. These elite warriors charge into battle on the backs of dragonspites, ancient insectoid beings which once drank deep from the sap of the Oak of Ages in the World-that-Was. The Everqueen’s song has roused these beasts from their amber prisons, and now they accompany her forces as vicious mounts.”

Sylvaneth Spiteriders Rules

Let’s start with the basics. Each Spiterider is wielding 4 attacks base while their unit champion gets an additional attack. Oh and then their mounts also pack on 3 more attacks. That’s no laughing matter — especially when you see the stats on those attacks:

Those Lances are pretty reliable and so are the mandibles from the mounts. Each attack also has a 2″ range which can be extremely useful for swinging over screening units or over each other. I’m liking what I see so far. We also know that each rider has 5 wounds each and they are going to be a pain to take out thanks to their Thrumming With Life special rule.

So yeah…if the Sylvaneth Spiteriders manage to snag a kill in a phase then, at the end of the phase, they heal back up to their full wounds. Again, with 5 wounds, that’s going to be a unit that just won’t go away entirely. Combine that with a musician in the unit and they also rally models on a 5+. Imagine rallying the unit to get back a model or two and then healing any wounded model back up to full. Talk about taking the wind out of your opponent’s sails.

And Thrumming With Life also applies to the Revenant Seekers which is the other version you can build for these models out of the box. But we’ve still got another rule to cover for the Spiteriders! Descent of the Spiteriders allows them to ensure they get to strike-first when they make a charge, too:

So for a unit of three, that’s 22 attacks with the profiles listed above that all strike first. Ideally they swoop in and get a bunch of kills on a unit. That triggers their Thrumming With Life rule so when they do get hit back and it’s less than 5 wounds, they can just regen it right back. That’s not too shabby!

The Sylvaneth Spiteriders and going to be charging in fullbore with their new rules in the upcoming Battletome: Sylvaneth! There are more units with even more new rules coming soon.
