Age of Sigmar: Vanguard Boxes Pricing Breakdown

3 Minute Read
Jun 13 2022

There are 3 new Vanguard Boxes coming very soon from Games Workshop. Let’s see what sort of a deal they are packing!

We know the price point for the Vanguard Boxes starts at $130. And we know there are 3 new Vanguard bundles on the way. Let’s take a look at each one and see what sort of a discount each one will have.

Vanguard: Skaven

Grey Seer – $27

Stormfiends – $70

Warp Lightning Cannon – $38

Clanrats – $42

Total Individual MSRP: $177

Total Savings: $47

This box isn’t too bad if you want to use the models inside. You’re basically paying $5 for those Clanrats if you were going to buy a Grey Seer, Stormfiends, and a Warp Lightning Cannon anyhow. That’s also a good core to work with. Should you go for two boxes? A new player might want to go that route.

I’m personally a little fuzzy on Skaven and their different builds. But all that is changing when they get a new Battletome anyhow. I’d say pick up a book and the Vanguard box if you’re new. Do a bit more research and come back to this box if you want to go heavy into WLC and Stormfiends.

Vanguard: Daughters of Khaine

Melusai Ironscale – $35

Doomfire Warlocks – $42

Witch Aelves – $60

Melusai Blood Stalkers – $60

Total Individual MSRP: $197

Total Savings: $67

Just based off the math this one is already a good deal. But based of experience this is still a good deal! All of the models in this box are going to be useful for DoK players. Now, before you go off and build them you might want to decide which sub-faction you’re going to lean into. Those Blood Stalkers can also be built as Blood Sisters and both can hit extremely hard. More Witch Aelves (which can also be built as Sisters of Slaughter) can get juiced up to dangerous levels, too. But it all revolves around how you bring your heroes to support them.

As for the Doomfire Warlocks the are actually cheap and effective screens/harassment units. They can sling a spell and snag objectives. Plus they are fast and are on calvary bases. I’ve seen them used effectively by some very good players to cause problems. If you can learn to use them well they can create openings for you, too. Don’t underestimate them in the army!

This is a good buy at $130 plain and simple.

Vanguard: Nighthaunt

Knight of Shrouds – $35

Grimghast Reapers – $50

Chainrasp Hordes x 2 = $84

Spirit Hosts $32

Total Individual MSRP: $201

Total Savings $71

Again, math says at $130 you’re getting a good deal. And as a Nighthuant player myself this looks a lot like my own first foray into this army. It’s not a bad start by any means! The Knight of Shrouds is a good character and with the right relics can be a pain to deal with. The Grimghast Reapers bring some good saves and solid attacks (especially with their 2″ reach). Spirit Hosts are just plain better in their new Battletome than previous editions. And more Chainrasps are always welcome.

The savings for this box and the units inside make it a good buy as well. And if you did want to double down and buy two boxes you’d be in a pretty good spot! You’ll probably need to expand into other characters/heroes but you’d have a really good core to build up from.
