The Raven Guard have some new rules to show off for the Horus Heresy. Let’s see what the Sons of Corax can do on the tabletop!

Ahh the Raven Guard. When you want to wear power armor and be stealthy few do it better than these marines. Plus, it’s easy to look stylish in black! But forget about that we’re here to know what they can do in terms of rules. Thankfully, Games Workshop has a few previews for us so let’s take a look.

“There are three divisions, each with their own perk. For example, your humble line infantry are classed as Talons, and are tasked with using their relative agility to creep up the battlefield ahead of the main assault, avoiding enemy fire through stealth and caution.”

Talons is a special keyword rule for the army. If a unit if full of models with the Talons rule than shooting attacks at them from more than 8″ away are going to have a harder time sticking thanks to their Shrouded (6+) bonus. That might not seem like much but it’s a good start. Plus, all these models also gain the Infiltrate special rule, too. It’s clear that the Raven Guard are going to get up to some sneaky shenanigans with this one.

There are also Hawks, which are your bikers and lighter vehicles, as well as Falcons. The Falcons are mostly your Dreadnoughts and heavy infantry. Jump Pack infantry fall into the Falcon territory, too. And yes, each one will have their own unique rules. Using the units with these designations effectively is going to be key for the Raven Guard to score a win.

Naturally, the Raven Guard also have their own unique Advanced Reaction. Fade to Black is basically a “ninja vanish” move for the targeted unit. For starters, they get to move a number of inches equal to the highest unmodified Initiative Characteristic in the unit — in ANY direction. That unit also gains Shrouded (4+) for the remainder of the turn. On top of all that, if you do happen to move out of range of the attacking unit, that unit basically loses their shooting phase. Surprise.

This one could be very effective and frustrating to play around. It’s only usable once per battle though. So choose wisely.

Corvax and the rest of the Raven Guard are landing soon along with the rest of the Horus Heresy! Get ready for a stealth attack from above.
