Age of Sigmar: But Where’s the (Chaos) Beef? Chaos Dwarf Theories

2 Minute Read
Jul 31 2022

Games Workshop has played this game before, so no need to “Squat” waiting for Chaos Dwarves.

This weekend, Warcry goes up for preorder, and with it two new warbands. Fans of old school Fantasy will recognize one of the factions, the Horns of Hashut, as having shades of an older favorite. But hang on; wasn’t Hashut primarily worshipped by the dwarves of Zharr-Naggrund? What do these upstart softskins think they’re doing? Well, I think this is a way for Games Workshop to Leagues of Votann us all over again. After all, the signs are all there…

Hobgoblins

One of the biggest early indicators of a Chaos Dwarf release was the addition of Hobgrots to the Orruk Warclans. Hobgoblins were allies of the Chaos Dwarves, helping them build their infernal machines and serving as frontline buffers for their armies. Looking at the design of the Hobgrots, the old Mongolian-style armor of the Hobgoblins is obvious, as well as the increased size and trademark tusks. Even the use of explosives hearkens back to their time in the Chaos Wastes, so it’s only a matter of time before they return to their true masters.

Lore

During the events of Broken Realms, as Morathi schemed to ascend to godhood and Be’Lakor scorched the skies of Chamon, Archaon was making a push for Azyr. Of all the Realms, many believed that one was fully beyond his reach. However, he had constructed a new weapon, an amalgamation of ram and cannon that was colossal in size. As Archaon’s primary artificers in the world that was, this was an indication that Chaos Dwarves were on the way. Brilliant and powerful as he is, Archaon lacks mastery of Infernal Machines, so for him to have a weapon like that, the Dawi-Zharr must be involved.

Warcry

Alongside the Horns of Hashut, the Iron Golems have a Chaos Dwarf member. The diminutive Armator is definitely a Chaos Dwarf, perhaps one that wandered away from the teachings of Hashut to follow a different god. With Hashut reappearing in lore, however, it wouldn’t surprise me to see this guy come back to his roots, and just like Votann, a Chaos Dwarf release is all but inevitable.
