Production news is starting to trickle out about Sam Wilson in ‘Captain America 4’, the next chapter for the MCU’s greatest American hero.

Listen, it’s only been a year since Falcon & the Winter Soldier premiered on Disney+. But the last year has been a long one, so it feels like it’s been longer. So in case you or anyone on Twitter forgot, the MCU still has a Captain America – and it’s Sam Wilson.

Let’s Re-Cap the Events – Falcon & the Winter Soldier

It took same a little while to come around to being the next Captain America. And in the meantime, the Wish.com version of Steve Rogers John Walker took over the shield. Together with the help of Bucky Barnes, the three fight the influence of the Flag Smashers. After John Walker’s fall from grace and some very revealing history is brought to light, Sam embraces all of the reasons why he should be Captain America.

Sam Wilson is Captain America

THR revealed this week that Captain America 4 had found a superstar director, Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox). It’s the first bit of news we’ve had about the project since the conclusion of Falcon & the Winter Soldier. Unfortunately, THR‘s article excerpt of Twitter read a little awkwardly.

To be fair, the tweet was just an excerpt from the article. The complete statement reads with more awareness:

“Anthony Mackie is starring in the feature, reprising his long-time Marvel character of Sam Wilson, but not, however, Wilson’s long-time alter ego and Captain America sidekick, Falcon. That is thanks to the events of 2021’s Marvel’s Disney+ series, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which saw Wilson, after much self-doubt, finally accept the shield and mantle of Captain America.”

Still, Chris Evans made sure to set everyone straight in case the excerpt gave them questions.

Captain America 4 Details

Apart from Mackie’s return as Sam Wilson, little else is known about the next installment of Captain America. The head writer from the Falcon & the Winter Soldier Malcolm Spellman will write the script. The show was one of the first in a string of Phase 4 shows that received critical acclaim – and while Falcon wasn’t as noisy as, say, WandaVision, it stands out as an edgier addition to the Marvel library. The show is full of valuable and timely social commentary – a fitting tone for Sam Wilson’s rise to the role of Captain America.

We don’t know when we can expect to see or hear more of ‘Captain America 4’, but we know for sure that we’re stupid excited. Stay tuned!
