Amazon’s previews for the upcoming Spelljammer: Adventures in Space confirms a trio of new Spelljammer races: astral elf, plasmoid, and giff.

Spelljammer: Adventures In Space opens up the world of D&D to the wonder of space. Spelljamming ships, space pirates, asteroids, and everything else. And in Amazon’s preview art, we get a glimpse of three confirmed new races in the book.

New Spelljammer races mean new player options. How long before you’re playing an ooze monk? As early as August. Let’s check ’em out!

New Spelljammer Races Confirmed – Astral Elf, Giff, Plasmoid

First of all this piece of art comes from the Amazon listing for Spelljammer: Adventures in Space, currently due out on August 16th.

We know that the campaign collection is a three-book set:

Home of the stars and gateway to the heavens, the Astral Plane teems with excitement and possibility. With the help of magic, spelljammers can cross the oceans of Wildspace, ply the silvery void known as the Astral Sea, and hop between worlds of the D&D multiverse.

This collection contains everything a Dungeon Master needs to run a campaign set in the starlit realms of Wildspace and the Astral Sea, as well as new options for players who want to create characters at home in this fantastic setting.

And of these books, the Astral Adventurer’s Guide, is crammed full of new character options. From new magic items and spells, to new player races.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the new races. In the Travelers of the Multiverse Unearthed Arcana we got a glimpse of all three of these, along with Hadozee (flying monkey people) and Autognomes (robot gnomes). Likely as not we’ll see all five. But this artwork seems to confirm that at the very least these three made the final cut.

Hopefully, they’ve seen some improvement from their Unearthed Arcana versions. When last we saw them, the Giff were underwhelming at best, while the Astral Elves struggled to find a distinct identity. Especially in the wake of the Githyanki and Githzerai.

If you’re curious you can read their most recent ability breakdowns here.

Spelljammer releases on August 16th!
