The Horus Heresy might have been the largest Marine vs Marine conflict ever — but they weren’t the only ones fighting in this civil war.

Get ready to expand your Horus Heresy horizons with more armies to play on the tabletop. The Liber Imperium brings more forces of the Imperium to bare against the traitors. Today, Games Workshop is showcasing a few of the tools at the loyalists disposal.

“The 18 Space Marine Legions and the Taghmata Omnissiah were not the Emperor’s only tools of war used on the Great Crusade. The vast war machine of the Imperium also included the indomitable Legio Custodes, the sinister Sisters of Silence, the elite Imperial Army personnel of the Solar Auxilia, and the shadowy Clades of the Divisio Assassinorum.  “

Up first we have a look a the Legio Custodes. They are the Emperor’s elite bodyguards and they have their own special rule – Nemesis:

” Once an enemy unit fulfils the essential criteria to count as a ‘Nemesis’ unit the Custodes can engage, gaining +1 Attacks, +1 to Charge Rolls, and never needing to roll higher than 4+ to score a Hit – unless that foe is a Primarch.”

Watch out for these Golden Warriors of the Emperor. They are designed to go headhunting and each one can fight with the fury of elite characters!

The Solar Auxilia is the anvil to the Space Marine’s hammer. They are the backbone of the Imperium and overwhelm their enemies with sheer weight of fire. Need to take a planet? The Solar Auxilia will throw more bodies and bullets at it until it crumples under the Imperial heel.

Their special rule is called Tercio and allows for some really potent combined arms actions:

Yeah…have fun mixing it up with a Tercio of Leman Russ Squads…

Finally, we have a quick look at the Diviso Assassinorum. They get to add assassins to your army as non-compulsory HQ choices. Just don’t expect them to actually lead your armies though. They are too busy executing their own missions…

“Each Clade has specialised tools and they can turn even adverse situations to their advantage thanks to years of intense training, combat stims, and mysterious augmentations. The Tactical Displacement reaction allows any Assassin targeted by a shooting attack to bob, weave and pirouette away from any unfriendly fire and carry on with their mission unscathed.”

Pinning these assassins down is going to be tough. With that extra move they are likely going to be able to get to cover and your shots are just going to be wasted. Could it be worth it? Perhaps. Choose your targets wisely.
