It is playtest season, folks. And the Marvel Multiverse RPG has hit the ground running with a massive update and survey for their playtest rules.

Have you tried the Marvel Multiverse Roleplaying Game? If so, Marvel wants to hear from you. If not, Marvel wants you to try it. And, with a massive new update to the rules, even if you’re already playing it. You may want to give it another shot.

With a big, free update, we now have the Marvel Multiverse RPG playtest rules version 1.2. 1.2 means a lot of changes, and a new character sheet. Have you wanted to play Shang-Chi? Now’s your chance.

Marvel Multiverse RPG – Update 1.2

If you’re familiar with the previous versions of the Marvel Multiverse RPG you’ll be surprised to find just how much they’ve changed with update 1.2. The whole game has been massively streamlined.

Features like Ranks (which are good for letting you know how powerful a character is, as opposed to how much a character has advanced) have been reduced from 25 to a total of 6. And Archetypes, which were like character classes, have been removed entirely.

In fact, so have the big tables that determined your target numbers. That system has been replaced with a much simpler system based on your overall rank and the appropriate ability score.

For example, now Captain America (who has a rank of 4 and a Might of 8) rolls +12 when making a Might Action roll. Damage rolls have been simplified too. Players use the result of their Marvel dice from the attack roll and multiply it by their rank, plus any modifiers from powers.

And this is just a taste of how much has changed. Take a look at Shang-Chi’s new character sheet:

You can see the new 1.2 changes in place here. All of which is just the first wave of changes. Marvel has promised to bring more updates soon, including changes to Traits to make it easier to make a new character that fits in line with the current system.

Whatever you may think of the changes? Marvel wants to know. To that end, they too have a playtest survey going on. You can find the new update and the playtest below.
