Games Workshop has been showcasing the Leagues of Votann on Battle Report and they have 5 tips for using them on the tabletop.

The Warhammer+ series Battle Report has been featuring the Leagues of Votann in a Crusade series. This week they are up to 100 Power and that unlocks a Strike Force sized battle for the campaign’s tenth game. While that’s good to know, what’s really interesting is that the Warhammd Community sat down with their Leagues of Votann Player Si Grant and got the lowdown on 5 things he’s learned over those 10 games.

Si Grant: “Having been playing with the Leagues of Votann for a while now, I’ve discovered quite a few nasty combos across the army. To celebrate the end of our Crusade series on Battle Report, these are my top five tips to give your Oathband a Guild-approved edge in their first games.”

Tip #5 – “Refuse To Die”

This one really boils down to understanding your armour saves. The Leagues of Votann are tough to kill when you push the limits of what your Exo-armour can do combined with the League’s Void Armour rules.

Void Armour is a faction-wide ability. So remembering that they deny re-rolls to wound and re-rolls to the damage roll is a BIG deal. And stacking those -1 to damage abilities is really going to add up. And if you get in a real jam, use your stratagems!

Yeah…good luck getting to the mushy center on these exo-armoured Kin!

Tip #4 – “Stay in Touch”

This tip is a friendly reminder to remember your Auras…and also how to really get the most out of them.

The Kindred Hero Aura is your pretty standard “re-roll attack rolls of 1” aura. But you can improve that by parking your hero next to a unit with the Multiwave Comms Array –and by “parking” them I mean stick them up to 24″ away!

That extended range is great for your Hearthkyn Warriors and Hernkyn Pioneers. Just make sure you add that wargear to their unit and they can go a lot deeper and still get the same buffs.

Tip #3 – “There’s No Substitute for Experience”

This this is all about maximizing the warlord trait Experienced Eye for your army.

Stacking up those Judgement tokens can have a really beneficial effect for the Leagues. And Grim Efficiency allows your Kâhls to hand out those Judgement Tokens to your enemies like candy.

Also, you can pay extra points to upgrade your Kâhl to a High Kâhl. What does that do?

“Not only will you be able to dish out two Judgement tokens each turn using Grim Efficiency, but you can include both a High Kâhl and a Kâhl in the same Detachment, thereby avoiding the Hero of the Oathband limit of one. Why include both? Because the only thing better than using Grim Efficiency twice per turn is using it THREE times!”

Tip #2 – “Go Beserk”

If you’ve been wanting to know what the Leagues Close Combat weapons are like this is a pretty good indicator of what they are going to be swinging.

It’s basically a Thunderhammer. And, unfortunately, that also includes the -1 to attack’s hit rolls. But don’t fret — there’s a stratagem for that:

Since you’re basically going to be hitting on re-rolling 4+ anyhow, try to use this combo on a unit with 3 Judgement tokens for maximum impact. Auto wounding with a Votann Beserks unit with Concussion Mauls is going to sting.

Tip #1 – “Deliver Judgement, Magna-rail Style”

Did you want to bring the boom from a distance? You’re going to want to load-up on the Magna-rails then…

We already knew these weapons were nasty! Now behold the pain that is the Heavy Magna-Rail Cannon!

Oof! I don’t know if I’m glad that it’s “only” one shot or not. I’d hate to be on the receiving end of this one. Now if there was any way to make sure that you hit with it…

Here’s the real kicker:

“That’s right, you can simply make your heavy magna-rail cannon’s hit roll into a 6… which if the target has any Judgement tokens, also makes your wound roll into a 6. That’s two 6s for the price of one, and means that unless they have a 2+ Save, they can look forward to suffering 8 to 12 Wounds – which, of course, will be spread throughout that unit should any models be slain!”

So yeah… Ûthar the Destined next to a unit with a Magna-rail weapon is going to a thing to watch out for.
