CMON announced that an Assassin’s Creed RPG is in the works. Get your Hidden Blade ready, here’s what we know so far.

Assassin’s Creed is coming to a tabletop near you, according to an announcement from CMON just last week. The free-running open-world franchise, which turns 15 this year, will make its first foray into the world of tabletop roleplaying games through CMON’s publishing imprint, Guillotine Press.

Players will take on the world of Assassin’s Creed in both modern-day and historical eras, with ANIMUS shenanigans as everything. So you too can be the Desmond or Layla or unnamed pirate video game tester you’ve always dreamed of being, while also roleplaying out that they’re living more exciting lives in more exciting times.

But that’s half the appeal when it comes to Assassin’s Creeds. And we are fantastically curious to see how CMON’s publishing imprint, Guillotine Press, will pull this off.

CMON Announces Assassin’s Creed RPG

Per their announcement, players will take on the role of modern-day characters. They’ll also create different Ancestors from throughout history.

Overseen by CMON’s Head of IP & RPGs, Francesco Nepitello (The One Ring RPG, Zombicide Chronicles RPG, Dune: War for Arrakis), players in the Assassin’s Creed roleplaying game will create and play as Descendants, modern-day characters whose ancestors were famous Brotherhood assassins of old. Players will also create and play as several of those same Ancestors, one for each time period they’ll visit in their missions by entering the Animi Network. Guiding their adventures is the Animus Operator; it’s their duty to set the scene and guide the players through the game.

This is, so far, the most exciting idea we’ve seen for an Assassin’s Creed-style RPG. It shows that Guillotine wants to tie together the different weaving tales which makes Assassin’s Creed stand out. How will the struggle between Templars and Brotherhood play out? What mysteries of the past will inform the present?

These are questions at the heart of Assassin’s Creed. And fans of the game will find a lot more to explore here:

Fans of the video game can expect a deep dive into a wealth of lore and history pulled directly from the series’ core line, as well as the over two dozen spin-off games. Assassin’s Creed and roleplaying fans can expect a deluxe set of the books, along with numerous game supplements and enhancements, like character miniatures, detailed maps, and game aids.

The Assassin’s Creed RPG is slated for pre-order 2023
