The actor is ready to return in Daredevil: Born Again after his She-Hulk cameo. Here’s what Cox has to say about taking up the mantle again.

Charlie Cox was the man behind the mask for three season’s on Netflix – before Disney+ took over Marvel streaming. When all of the Defenders Saga was canceled in 2019, fans weren’t sure if they’d see the characters again. Until a favorite hero showed up in street clothes in Spider-Man: No Way Home and his nemesis appeared in Hawkeye.

Daredevil’s guest appearance in She-Hulk was the first time the actor put on the suit and mask in over five years. He told EW it was an emotional moment, as is taking on the character again.

“I think I’m still coming to terms with it. It still feels too good to be true. I really had put this to bed emotionally; I didn’t think that this was going to happen; and literally don’t have the words to describe it. I’m incredibly grateful. I’m so excited about starting again and reading scripts and putting the costume back on and getting on set and being in New York. I can’t wait to start back in and tell more of this amazing character’s story.”

What We Know About Daredevil: Born Again

It is officially part of Phase Five and is set to debut sometime in 2024. It’s been reported that this is going to be a direct sequel to Echo, but that’s not confirmed. Matt Corman (Covert Affairs) and Chris Ord (Containment) are attached to write and executive produce. It’s been confirmed that Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio are attached, but no word if any other Netflix regulars or their characters are coming back. Or if his relationship with Jenn Walters will continue and bring Tatiana Maslany into the show.

What’s the Story

The show is named after a 1986 run of the comic by Frank Miller. As with a lot of Miller’s stories, it’s a dark tale. It details Daredevil’s descent into madness and destitution at the hands of Kingpin. Followed by his struggle to rebuild his life. The story was loosely adapted into the third season of Netflix’s Daredevil. No word on if this is being revisited or if Matt is going to get a different type of rebirth story.

There are a lot of directions this could go. I’m hoping/expecting a hard-hitting action-based show closer to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier than an all-out comedy like She-Hulk. The light-hearted Matt we saw this season was fantastic and I hope he shows up in Jenn’s corner of the MCU gain, but we don’t need a Daredevil comedy show.

When asked about how he felt about Daredevil: Born Again Cox had this to say:

“The thing that I’m most intrigued about and really interested in is to see how and why Marvel have chosen this character to appear in an 18-episode series. There has to be a reason why this character has been chosen. I think probably the fact that he’s a lawyer, which in and of itself lends so many story possibilities to us, is probably the main reason. But I’m just fascinated to see what we are able to do in terms of storytelling with that many episodes. It’s such a huge task. It’s such a huge undertaking, but I think if we get it right, to have that many episodes to tell a number of stories is really a really fun challenge and potentially incredibly gratifying.”

As a fan of his take on the character, I’m looking forward to the new series. If you haven’t watched the Netflix series, all three seasons are on Disney+ now. It’s well worth your time.
