Harrison Ford, Indiana Jones and Star Wars actor, is joining another huge franchise as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross.

Thunderbolt Ross is best known in the comics as one of the Hulk’s nemesis. He comes from a proud tradition of military service and immersed himself in military history as a child, became a pilot in his teenage years, and attended United States Military Academy. Ross started his own military career with the Army Air Corps. He served during WWII and was a member of Control. He eventually ended up in nuclear arms testing where he met Banner.

William Hurt originated the on-screen version in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. With his death, the role of the General needed an actor. Someone old enough to be a general, no-nonsense, gruff, commanding, and able to get angry in that bottled-control-but-not way. Harrison Ford is all of that. No word on how big his role will be or if the Red Hulk will make an appearance. Hurt’s participation ranged from protagonist to cameo – he never made the transformation. He was always there as just a human military presence.

What We Know About Captain America: New World Order

So far the cast includes the return of Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson aka Captain America, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, and Danny Ramirez, Joaquin Torres. Plus Shira Haas, Tim Blake Nelson (who was in The Incredible Hulk), and Harrison Ford. It’s being directed by Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox) from a script by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson.

The movie’s plot is still under wraps, but expect an expansion of the hit Disney+ show with bigger fight scenes, more spy shit, and more social commentary about the lives of those in the MCU. Spellman said that they’re going to push the boundaries. He noted that Marvel fans had proved over the years that they’re “very willing to go on these rides and deal with stuff that has substance.”

They started filming Mackie praised the script and the cast, calling the whole experience amazing. No drama during creation is always good to hear. Captain America: New World Order begins filming at the start of 2023, before arriving in theaters on May 3, 2024.
