Warhammer 40K: Shadowvaults Miniature Review

4 Minute Read
Oct 15 2022

We got our hands on the new Shadowvaults box and we’re tackling the brand new plastic Kasrkin and Necrons!

The next Into the Dark aka Gallowdark saga boxed set is here with Shadowvaults. We’re getting two new Kill Teams in the box as well as another set of the Gallowdark Terrain. So what do the miniatures look like? Take a look:

Kasrkin In Plastic!

I talked to Goatboy about building these miniatures and he said “Models were great to put together” and I believe him. They look pretty sweet full assembled…now we just gotta get some paint on them!

The box itself contains a bunch of sprues for the new plastic Kasrkin miniatures so you’ll have LOTS of different options for building them. And you’re probably going to want to load up on the plasma with these guys thanks to their Special Elite Points rule (which I’m not a fan of).

This unit is actually pretty great for Kill Team in general thanks to all those options. You can really customize them however you want/need them to be.

The Necrons in this box are going to be overshadowed by the Kasrkin release. And that’s kind of a shame because they aren’t too shabby! In reality, this box has one additional upgrade sprue for them and it’s kind of a bolt-on to the Immortals/Deathmarks box.

It’s a good upgrade sprue — but you can tell where the lions share of the development went with this boxed set.

How About Some Extras?

I would like to point out that the box also comes with some great extras. The Robots and extra doodads sprue is a nice addition to the Gallowdark Terrain.

As for the rest of the terrain, well, it’s more of the same. That’s not a bad thing! That means if you have the Into the Dark box, combined with this one, you’re going to have plenty of ways to rig up some corridors and bulkheads.

The new boxed set is up for Pre-order this weekend. So if you’re looking to expand your terrain, add some Necrons, or get your first crack at the new plastic Kasrkin miniatures, now is your chance!

Kill Team: Shadowvaults $185

In the hellish close confines of the space hulk Gallowdark, elite kill teams stalk each other through haunted corridors. Millenia ago, an Imperial Inquisitor and a regiment of loyal Cadian Kasrkin recovered an ancient xenos artefact, but their ship was lost in the warp and fused with the colossal floating mass of Gallowdark. Only a few years have passed for the Kasrkin survivors trapped within its time-bending mass, though thousands have gone by in the galaxy outside. Now, the Necron owners of that relic have awoken from eons of slumber – and Technomancer Hamanet the Relentless of the Tsarakura Dynasty will stop at nothing to reclaim his lost creation.

Kill Team: Shadowvaults is a full expansion box for Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team, the ultimate sci-fi skirmish game. It includes miniatures for two complete new Kill Teams – the hard-bitten elite Kasrkin shock troops of Cadia, and the newly-awoken Necrons of the Hierotek Circle. They’re packed together with loads of space hulk terrain, which is fully compatible with the set found in Kill Team: Into the Dark, along with transfers, a double-sided game board, and a rules manual including missions, background material exploring the mysterious setting, and full rosters for the two kill teams.
