The Red Gobbo is prepping the presents for all the kiddies; make sure you know what to ask for to grow your new holiday bundles.

The Age of Sigmar holiday bundles have been announced, and this year’s lot looks amazing. We’ve got dragons, trees, ghosts…tons of great starter forces for some of the big names in the Realms. Of course, this is ONLY the start; you’ll need a lot more if you want to expand to a full army. Here are a few quick suggestions for early buys to add to the bundles.

Before Anything Else

First and foremost, you’ll want to purchase the relevant battletome (assuming you are using the box as a launching point). The models are great, and the collections are diverse, but you still need the book to know what everything does. If you’re using this to expand an existing army, or someone else is planning to snag the tome for you, disregard this step.

Kruleboyz

The newest members of the Orruk family, the Kruleboyz are master ambushers and “finkin'” warriors, far from the usual massive face smash of the Warclans. The box gives you a great start, with two potential Special Characters (or powerful generic heroes), a unit of melee infantry, and a small ranged attachment. Right away, you’ll need a few more Gutrippaz, as ten isn’t nearly enough. I’d suggest at least two boxes unless you want a primarily ranged army, in which case, snag two more boxes of Boltboyz. You’ll also probably want a Killbow, one of the best units in the roster, and a Swampcalla Shaman to cover magic. This box can expand into just about any army you want, so whether you buy Gutrippaz or Boltboyz first will depend on your build choice.

Daughters of Khaine

One of the strongest melee armies, the Daughters of Khaine are a powerful and deadly force to be reckoned with. Combining speed and ferocity with powerful prayers and wicked spellcasting, there isn’t much they can’t do. Beyond the holiday box, your first buy should be Morathi; powerful as she is, you shouldn’t leave home without her. From there, decide on your temple, then either go hard on Witch Aelves or Melusai. Personally, I’d suggest Melusai, as they are a slightly more cost-effective unit, but Witches saw a lot of buffs recently. Also, it depends on how you build the centerpiece; if you go Cauldron, Witches, otherwise get the snakes.

Nighthaunt

Probably one of the best out-of-the-box sets, the Nighthaunt Holiday box gives you a lot of power immediately. The combination of a Coach, two deadly Battleline units, and a good harrier with a powerful Mortarch means you won’t have to worry about much. I suggest grabbing a mounted Knight of Shrouds, a couple of Dreadblade Harrows, and some Hexwraiths to capitalize on speed. After that, another box of the Reapers or the Revenants, depending on which you like better.

Tune in Sunday for the other four boxes!
