We got our hands on the new Slaves to Darkness Army Set and built those minis! Join us as we dive deeper into the new box.

When Games Workshop first revealed the new Slaves to Darkness Army Set I was pumped. That’s because it’s packed full of brand new plastic models. There’s a new Plastic Daemon Prince, new plastic Chaos Chosen, and even a brand new unit of Ogroid Theridons which I was super pumped about. I got to unbox and build the miniatures so check them out:

Slaves To Darkness Army Set

Let’s just go down the line of the new miniatures. First up let’s chat about the new Plastic Daemon Prince.

First up, yes, this is a dual purpose kit. You can build the Daemon Prince as a 40k Daemon Prince OR as a AoS Daemon Prince. But those aren’t your only options. There’s a TON of swaps you can make with it. There’s different poses for the weapon (right) hand and three main weapon options: Sword, Axe, or Malefic Talons. The left hand doesn’t have quite as many poses but you still can opt for the regular hand or Malefic Talon. And of course if you’re going to for the 40k version you can do the wristed mounted weapon, too.

The feet also have two different options so you can choose either claws or the hooves. And to keep the options going, the back has either Wings, a trophy rack, or a 40k backpack. You get the idea. Oh and then there’s all the different chaos icons that allow you to differentiate which Chaos God this Daemon Prince is a fan of. The point is…you’ve got options.

Now, let’s chat about those Chaos Chosen. This box contains enough sprues that you can build 10 of them — and you can make a bunch of different versions of them! I was really impressed by the sheer number of options from this kit. Axes, Hammers, giant Maces, Swords — you get the idea! Plus there’s the icon/standard bearer and a musician as well. And I don’t want to skip over the fantastic details on all these miniatures. The way that GW cut the models up to put on the sprues really hides their seam lines well. Plus the poses are just a ton more fun and dynamic than their previous incarnation.

I think this is another fantastic kit that Slaves to Darkness fans are going to have a lot of fun with — and they are also a really scary unit now. But we’ll take on how the rules work in a different article.

I think I keep calling these guys “OGOR-roids” instead of “OG-roids” I better fix that before they hear me! This is a brand new unit and another really cool kit for the Slaves to Darkness. I feel like these models are what the old Minotaurs from Beast of Chaos wanted to be but hit the gym a little too hard and ended up looking well, how they look. The Ogroids look intimidating and are impressive. Building them was pretty easy, too!

I will offer up a little advice on these guys however: Pay attention to which version you’re building! There’s different options for the unit champion and because these sprues only allow for 3 models, each model uses a similar base pose but adds other bits to it to create the Champ, Musician, or Standard Bearer. You’ve also got options for the Swords and Boards (shields) or the Axes. Both versions look fantastic so enjoy build those.

This is also the first place you’re going to get your hands on the Slaves to Darkness Battletome as well as their warscroll cards and an exclusive 28 card Enhancement Deck. All those extras are just handy play-aides to have with you.

Overall I was really happy with this Army Boxed set as a veteran Slaves to Darkness player. Everything in the box is new, plastic kits. While the Daemon Prince and Chosen aren’t new units I think they are both leaps and bounds ahead of their previous versions. And we also get the new Ogroid unit, too! I kind of want another set of Ogroids just so I can run a full squad and also have the Champ, Musician, and Standard Bearer in the unit as well. Looks like my Slaves to Darkness army is getting a major boost!

And now for a personal plug. I have a friend who also plays Slaves to Darkness and is a big pillar in our local gaming community. He’s got a Kickstarter going for a dark fantasy graphic novel and if you’re a fan of Slaves to Darkness and can’t get enough dark fantasy in your life, then please go check out his Kickstarter. This isn’t an ad from him and he doesn’t know I’m even throwing this in here. But I think his work deserves to be seen so please, if you’ve got a minute, go take a look and judge for yourself if you want to back it (and I hope you do).
