WotC Reveals New Takhisis Artwork And Dragonlance Monsters

Takhisis is the leader of the five Dragon Armies. And as you can see here, she looks ready to lead from the front.

It helps that she was one of the most powerful deities of Krynn. She was sister to Gilean, god of neutrality and knowledge, and Paladine, god of good and majesty and metallic dragons. In the first days of Krynn, it was she who brought forth the other evil gods.

Takhisis stole away the first dragons, fleeing to the darkness of the Abyss. There they became corrupted by her evil. And it was there, that the Dark Queen became known as the Five Great Dragons to the Jarak-sinn, to whom she appeared as a great dragon with five heads: one of each color.

And Queen she is. The Dragon Queen brokered an oath of non-interference from the good dragons of Krynn by having her forces steal their eggs.

In exchange for them swearing an oath not to interfere, she agreed to return them.

Naturally, Takhisis immediately broke her oath. Her forces corrupted the dragon eggs, creating a new force, the Draconians. There are many types, here are two of the ones that will appear in Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen

First up, bozak draconians, created from copper dragon eggs. They explode when slain. These are the shock troops of the Dragon Armies, and with good reason. Their wings make them fast. And their explosive demise ensures that even in death, they strike a blow against their foes.

Sivak draconians, descended from silver dragon eggs, are masters of illusion. They can take on the “death shape” of whoever they last killed. This lasts for three days, allowing them to be spies and saboteurs, and assassins like no other force in the Dragon Queen’s armies.

Happy Adventuring!
