Wakanda Forever is almost here, and it’s a perfect time to curl up with some of our favorite Black Panther comics.

This weekend, many of us will file into a movie theater, tissues in hand and ready to behold Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The film will undoubtedly be a beautiful tribute to Chadwick Boseman, the one and only T’Challa. Whether before or after the premiere, there are some great Black Panther books you need to read.

As always, we know that digital comics are very convenient. But if you see something you absolutely need to own in the meatspace, be sure to head to your local comic book shop!

Panther’s Quest by Don McGregor, Rich Buckler, & More

He is T’Challa, strong, sleek, resilient – prowling the night with panther-like grace! And this is his quest – a stealth mission in South Africa, following rumors that the mother he never knew may still be alive! The Panther will take on soldiers and social injustice in a harrowing tale filled with tragedy and hard-hitting action. He’ll face bloody, brutal combat as he closes in on his prey as only the Black Panther can – with supreme strength of will.

Who is the Black Panther? by Reginald Huddling & John Romita Jr.

Deep in the heart of Africa is Wakanda, a technologically advanced civilization of great power and mystery. Its warrior-king is T’Challa, the latest in a famed family line, and the great hero is known worldwide as the Black Panther. Despite the futile defeats of the past, outsiders are once more assembling to invade Wakanda and plunder its riches.

Leading this brutal assault is Klaw, a deadly assassin with the blood of T’Challa’s murdered father on his hands. Klaw brings with him a powerful army of super-powered mercenaries, all hell-bent on raining death and destruction on this pristine land. Even with Wakanda’s might and his own superhuman skills, can the Black Panther prevail against such a massive invading force?

Enemy of the State by Christopher Priest & Joe Jusko

The Black Panther is ever vigilant against those who would usurp his throne and plunder the riches of his nation, Wakanda. No price is too high for King T’Challa to protect his Kingdom.

A Nation Under Our Feet by Tai Nehisi Coates & Brian Stelfreeze

When a superhuman terrorist group calling itself The People sparks a violent uprising, the land famed for its incredible technology and proud warrior traditions will be thrown into turmoil.

As suicide bombers terrorize the population, T’Challa struggles to unite his citizens, and a familiar villain steps out of the shadows. If Wakanda is to survive, it must adapt — but can its monarch, one in a long line of Black Panthers, survive the necessary change? Heavy lies the head that wears the cowl!
