The new Willow series debut is coming up. Disney has dropped a new clip that teases what’s at stake and the danger this band of new heroes is about to be in.

The 1988 movie followed a young father named Willow tasked with protecting a baby that was fated to save the world. He did so with the help of wild man Madmartigan, a warrior named Sorsha, and the good sorceress Fin Raziel. The show happens decades after that triumph. Sorsha and Madmartigan’s son has been kidnapped and his sister sets off to save him… but not before asking for some help from a familiar hero. And he has some news not all of her party accepts.

Along with the sneak peek, Disney+ shared a behind-the-scenes look at the show. The cast and creators talk about translating the timeless fantasy from the big screen to the small, and the importance of continuing to tell Willow‘s story. It also features the show’s large-scale sets and some dangerous action scenes.

Willow Series Details

Davis has a new party for this journey: Tony Revolori, Amar Chadha-Patel, Ellie Bamber as Dove, Ruby Cruz as Kit, and Erin Kellyman as Jade. The returning cast also includes Joanne Whalley as Sorsha, plus Kevin Pollak and Rick Overton as brownies.

The story began when an aspiring sorcerer, played by Warwick Davis, is whisked away on a journey to protect an infant empress Elora Danan and vanquish the evil Queen Bavmorda from their world of Andowyne. Now, the story continues with Davis reprising his titular role, as he leads an unlikely crew of heroes on a quest to protect Andowyne from an even larger foe than they had imagined possible.

The original movie’s director, Ron Howard, is an executive producer. The showrunners are Jonathan Kasdan (Solo) and Wendy Mericle (Arrow).
