Half the fun of the new Age of Sigmar’s roadmaps is trying to guess which battletomes will be revealed. 2023 is right around the corner.

2022 was an incredible year for Age of Sigmar, and 2023 is shaping up to be even better. We got a preview of some coming attractions recently; Slave to Darkness will be fully released soon, and the Beasts of Chaos and Gloomspite Gitz will see an update soon after. Beyond that, we’re getting two tomes for Chaos, Order, and Death in the spring and summer. While we don’t have much information about the releases yet, some context and lore might give us a glimpse. In the listed order, here are my educated guesses for the upcoming 2023 Battletomes.

Cities of Sigmar/Dawnbringer Crusades

The first tome we’re getting is Order, and I think it’s a fair guess to assume it will be either Cities of Sigmar or Dawnbringer Crusade. However, going back on a previous guess, I think they will be a single tome, playable in multiple ways similar to Soulblight Gravelords and Orruk Warclans. With so many teases for models in this book and a TON of hype surrounding the release, it makes sense Games Workshop would kick things off with this tome.

Blades of Khorne

As the oldest Chaos Battletome, Khorne deserves its day in the sun. Sure, the army is performing decently well overall. But many of the rules feel a bit outdated in the current meta and could do with some polish. Plus, Khorne is having a massive renaissance now, thanks to Angron and the World Eaters, so an AoS release seems likely. But what I’m really hoping for is…

Hedonites of Slaanesh

Once at the top of the Chaos meta, Slaanesh has fallen on hard times in AoS 3.0. An update to bring them into the modern age would be significant, especially if it comes with a dedicated Warcry warband. Slaanesh is a reasonably balanced army now, but it has lost a lot of popularity. An 2023 update could breathe some passion back into it.

Ossiarch Bonereapers

The bone boys are in a bit of a dry and brittle state these days. So it makes sense to let them be the first Death tome of the new year. With the lore moving forward and Chaos gaining the upper hand, Nagash will want his strongest warriors at 100%. I hope they don’t do Arkhan dirty; he’s my favorite.

Flesheater Courts

Nagash’s forgotten children deserve an update more than almost any other army, Death or otherwise. They’ve had the same Battletome for a long time, and the modern meta isn’t doing them many favors. They aren’t BAD, but they certainly aren’t great, so an update is well-earned. Plus, they’re getting a new character for Boxing Day; that has to count for something.

I know it isn’t likely, but I want it, and Malerion deserves it. He keeps popping up in the lore, and he could easily turn the tide of Chaos. Just give me my shadow aelves, GW!!!

Do you think we got it right?
