Ten Planeswalkers are ready to fight on New Phyrexia, but how many will survive to the end?

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…no I don’t mean the holidays; it’s the beginning of spoiler season! Phyrexia: All Will Be One, the new Magic set premiering next February, is already primed to be a fan favorite. We return to New Phyrexia, as the heroes of the multiverse try desperately to defeat the greatest threat the planes have ever known.

Thanks to the handy spoiler shared with us by WotC, we know that ten Planeswalkers will be on the front. However, we also know that not all of them will survive, and some may suffer a fate worse than death: Phyrexian Compleation. But which planeswalkers will give in to Phyrexia? Well, we know it won’t be Koth, as his card has already been revealed, but the other nine are fair game. Here are our picks for 5 Planeswalkers that might be getting a little dose of oil for the holidays.

Lukka

Of the assembled Planeswalkers, I think Lukka will be the first to fall. His powers are drawn from his ability to bond with animals, and most of the animals on New Phyrexia have been corrupted by Vorinclex. More than likely, he will try to bond with a locale beast and become corrupted, allowing Elesh Norn a way into his head. He’s already been tainted by the Ozolith; Phyrexian oil is just the next logical step.

Nahiri

Denied Koth, the Phyrexians will want a being that can work with metal. Nahiri will be that, and she’s already proven to be easily influenced. If Elesh Norn offers her a deal to spare Zendikar, she might turn on her allies willingly. More likely, however, she will be corrupted through one of her forged weapons, likely in battle. Her skill with hedrons would also be of interest to the Phyrexians, putting an even bigger target on her back.

Tyvar

While primarily a nature-based caster, anathema to the Phyrexians, Tyvar’s arrogant nature may be his undoing. His unique skills are extremely powerful, and he may be able to apply his form-shifting powers to the living metal of New Phyrexia. However, this will also make him a target, since Elesh Norn would want that power for himself. Hopefully, his entitled sense of self-importance will make him incompatible with compleation.

Jace

A mage of prodigious skill with the ability to influence the minds of others? Sounds right up Elesh Norn’s alley. Jace is a slippery and intelligent combatant, and that will make him a hard target to pin down. On the other hand, if you’d asked me in January what planeswalkers were impossible to compleat, Ajani would’ve been top of the list. Elesh Norn has proven herself cunning in her pursuit of oneness; hopefully, Jace can stay one step ahead.

Kaito

While I don’t think Kaito will be caught unawares by the Phyrexians, I can see him making the sacrifice play for the Emperor. More than likely, however, he won’t be compleated, only fall in his defense of his allies. It could also be that he is caught trying to infiltrate Elesh Norn’s stronghold and then used against his comrades.
