After almost a week of radio silence on OGL 1.1, Wizards of the Coast made a brief statement to say they would be sharing more later.

Earlier today, Wizards of the Coast went in for understatement of the year. In a brief statement that acknowledges community “questions” about the OGL, the official D&D Beyond Twitter account promised to share more “soon.”

The community responded the way you might expect; reactions ranged from asking ‘when is soon’ to expressing ire at WotC for reframing their worries and outrage as simple ‘questions.’

D&D Beyond Responds Briefly To OGL Concerns

In a statement that acknowledges they are at least aware of community concerns, D&D Beyond made the following announcement at 10am PST earlier today. At press time, no further information or statements had been made elsewhere. Though many wonder if the answer might not be coming on January 13th, the supposed deadline for parties to agree to the changes in the leaked OGL 1.1 document.

“We know you have questions about the OGL and we will be sharing more soon. Thank you for your patience.”

This is the first statement, or indeed activity on any WotC official social media since January 4th. Which is a long time to go inactive.

The tweet comes after a lengthy Open Letter with almost 45,000 signatures (having gained another 20,000 or so signatures since this morning) was posted publicly. And after lawyers weighed in on the subject, even going so far as to send letters directly to WotC HQ.

As of yet, though, no questions have been answered. But even as the silence continues, movements like #OpenDnD continue to build up steam. It seems like the gaming industry/community is heading towards a pivotal moment.

How it all shakes out depends on the next few weeks. So stay tuned folks!
