Games Workshop has a friendly reminder it’s the perfect time to start your Armies on Parade Project for 2023.

I hope you’ve had at least a day to recover from New Years celebrations and are back and ready to rock. GW is hitting the ground running with the Armies on Parade 2023 schedule. If you’re planning on competing this year now is the time to plan and get ready.

“We don’t want to alarm you, but we’re already three days into the new year, and Parade Day for 2023’s Armies on Parade is just 10 months away. It’s time to start flexing those painting muscles and plan out your theme and display board. “

While you DO have 10 months to complete this year’s entry time will sneak on by (like it always does). Hopefully, this schedule does help as these milestones are good checkpoints to keep up with.

This month is “New Year New Army” which…sure. I mean, yeah, it’s a marketing thing to try to get you to start a new army. I think I’d personally prefer “New Year New Project” because that’s exactly what this is.

The WarCom article is being cheeky with the “Two(ish) steps” thing. But to be fair it can be that simple. It really just relies on getting started.

They break down point 2 into a few smaller steps:

2a: Choose Your Army

2b: Start Collecting!

And they really aren’t wrong. If you’re like me you’ve probably already got a few boxes of things that you’re working on. Or maybe you’ve got a project that you’ve been meaning to do but just never have the motivation to start/finish the project.

I’d encourage you to pick up those hobby tools and get to work on that project. You don’t have to buy a completely new army. But maybe you’ve never done a display board before. Or maybe you want to go back and touch up some models or bases. I say “YES!” to those projects — just do *something* to get started.

You don’t get to this by not starting.

So, if I had to redo their pitch, it’d be something like this:

New Year, New Project

  • Step 1: Be in a New Year. (done)
  • Step 2: Start A New Project
    • Step 2a: Choose a Project
    • Step 2b: Just Start it!

This is my new project for the new year. I’ve got an existing Slaves To Darkness Army but there’s a bunch of new models out from this box that I need to paint now. I should also start working on a Display Board, too! Could be fun to give that a go in 2023.

Pick your project and just start on it. You don’t have to complete it in one day. But you can’t finish it if you don’t start.
