You can fight me on this one but trying to top Horus Ascended is going to be tough.

So Horus got a new model from Forge World and it’s up for Pre-Order now. As far as Primarchs go this one takes the cake for me. And I’m not even a Sons of Horus fan boy. We got our hands on the miniature and it’s fan-freaking-tastic.

Horus Ascended …To Resin?

For me, this model had a lot going against it. For starters, it’s resin. That’s not my favorite medium to work with. But I didn’t have to build this one (whew) so that was a plus. Second, as mentioned above, I don’t even play Sons of Horus. But this model is making want to…

Anyhow, because it’s resin, you know the details are going to be super sharp. That’s a huge boon because holy crap are there a lot of details on this model. For example, the exposed pistons in the leg plates! And how they are surrounded with details and iconography. Moving up from there, the belt and mid section have heads and icons and chaos stuff.

And it just goes on from there. The mace is really impressive and the Talon of Horus? Wow — just wow! I do kind of wish he didn’t have the big pelt on his back only because want to see what the sculptor could have done with the rest of the armour and cape. It’s a stunning miniature.

What I also really appreciate about this model is the scenic base. This is a weird thing to bring up but I like that it’s not…over done. There are a few Primarchs with scenic bases where I think the artist went a little too hard on them and they detract from the model. In Horus’ case, it adds to the imposing look of the model without detracting or overshadowing it.

If you do choose to take the plunge and buy this model good luck with it. Frankly, I’d be intimidated to paint it for the price point that it’s at. It’s freaking Horus Ascended and it’s a prestige model for sure — so I’d want to paint it like one.

This model almost makes me want to start a Sons of Horus army. ALMOST. And you know there’s gonna be some scenic diorama for this version of Horus and the Emperor at some point, right? RIGHT?!

Just replace the skulls with Sanguinius and the floor with stairs…and add an Emperor model!
