We finally have a new trailer for Sailor Moon Cosmos and it features the Sailor Starlights and release dates.

A new trailer for Sailor Moon Cosmos came out this week, and it heavily features some of the most criminally ignored characters in English-Speaking Sailor Moon history; the Sailor Starlights.

Sailor Moon Cosmos

Previously known as the “Shadow Galactica” arc in Naoko Takeuchi’s original manga and the “Sailor Moon Stars” arc in the original 1990’s anime, Sailor Moon Cosmos will follow the last act in the Sailor Senshi story.

The entire Japanese voice cast of Sailor Moon Crystal is confirmed to return for Sailor Moon Cosmos. Additionally, Tomoya Takahashi (Kill la Kill) is directing both films and Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (Black Clover, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and Sailor Moon Eternal) is writing the scripts. Yasuharu Takanashi (Fairy Tail, Naruto, and Sailor Moon Eternal) is back to compose the film’s music. Perhaps most exciting, Kazuko Tadano, character designer for the original 90s version will be the lead character designer for Sailor Moon Cosmos.

The new-coming Sailor Starlights will be voiced by Saori Hayami (Taiki / Sailor Star Maker), Marina Inoue (Seiya / Sailor Star Fighter), and Ayane Sakura (Yaten / Sailor Star Healer).

The first part of Sailor Moon Cosmos will premiere on June 9th with the second part releasing on June 30th. That’s right, Usagi’s birthday.

Sailor Moon Stars

Sailor Moon Stars follows Usagi as she enters high school and begins to transition into adult life. Mamo-chan “goes to the US to attend medical school” and three pop stars start attending Usagi’s school. Of course, all of these things are connected to each other and the fate of the entire galaxy. This final arc wraps up Sailor Moon’s place in the cosmos and shows her who she is destined to be. A number of new characters are intruded in his arc. Including the new mysterious senshi, the Sailor Stars, Chibi-Chibi, a little girl who can only seem to say her name, and the arc’s main antagonist, Sailor Galaxia.

We expect Sailor Moon Cosmos will feature by and large the same story. But with less of the filler that the ’90s series was known for. So far Sailor Moon Crystal has shown us more faithful adaptations of Takeuchi’s original manga.  And that’s what we’re looking forward to in these films.

Stars is also one of the most controversial arcs and was the only season to not air in America. Probably due to the Sailor Starlights, who present as men in their mundane lives but transform into female-presenting Sailor Senshi. The sensors didn’t see a way to “they’re just cousins, really” that one so the whole season had to go.

We’re looking forward to Sailor Moon Cosmos and can’t wait to see both of these movies. Unfortunately, while we have confirmed release dates for June in Japan, we’re not sure when international audiences can expect to meet the Sailor Starlights. We will be keeping our ears open for more news though. And we’ll tell you as soon as we know more.

Are you excited about Sailor Moon Cosmos? If you’re already familiar with the new characters, which is your favorite? What have you thought of Sailor Moon Crystal’s take on the source material? Let us know in the comments!
