In 2023, Pathfinder 2E gets a revamped errata process, with a new batch of errata leading the charge. Here’s a look at what’s new!

Paizo rings in the new year with a new way of making changes. Yesterday, Paizo released a new batch of errata for Pathfinder 2nd Edition, which includes a number of flexibility changes for classes like the Alchemist, but which also includes an errata for the errata process itself.

In a blog post, Paizo offered up a look at how the process will change. In the past, the process had been tied to the reprinting of a book. This move made sure that whatever was out on shelves was current.

However, that also meant infrequent updates. If a book didn’t get a reprint, it might never get a fix for the rules. But, starting in 2023, Paizo will be releasing errata twice each year. There will be a spring update and a fall update. Regardless of reprints. Which gives them the freedom to “[go] in to apply a patch.”

Pathfinder 2nd Edition Errata

In addition to the new process, Paizo released some pretty hefty changes to the Pathfinder 2E Core Rulebook. Perhaps the most expansive change is the addition of alternate ancestry boosts.

Players will now have the option to choose two free ability boosts for a character of any ancestry. This move comes as a followup to 2E’s move away from bioessentialism, such as shifting from race to ancestry. And having ancestry and class work together to determine a character’s stat boosts.

As Paizo puts it, they hope to clarify that ancestries aren’t a monolith.

Alchemists, too, get some major changes, which coincide with the new options coming in Treasure Vault. They’ll be able to pick more items for a research field, which will help all you chirurgeons out there.

Happy adventuring!
