Are we about to have Skaven in 40k? Is that a T’au teaser? Card XIII from the Arks of Omen is one heck of a tease!

With all the excitement and games happening from the Las Vegas Open 2023 this past weekend we had a pretty full plate. However, Games Workshop almost managed to slip this teaser in under the radar. Almost. You’re going to want to check out this latest Arks of Omen teaser because it’s got a lot to chew on.

Were those rats? Those were definitely rats… And what was up with that sword? Look kinda like a particular T’au blade to me.

Skaven in 40k?

Let’s start unpacking this one. First up, let’s talk about the rats! This is a major tease as Games Workshop already has ratmen in the form of Skaven in Age of Sigmar. And let’s not forget the World-That-Was had some crossover Easter Eggs between the Skaven and the Eldar back in the day. There were lots of other hints that the Skaven and the Old World were a part of the larger 40k universe but the only factions to ever get the army crossover treatment were the Daemons.

That said, GW referenced the Hrud in last week’s Rumor Engine. And it’s long been thought that there might be a Hrud/Skaven connection.

That Hrud Warrior has a rat-tail! C’mon…

All that to say it would be pretty neat to see the Skaven get to burrow their way into 40k somehow. Then again, they aren’t the only horde rolling around either.

Let’s Talk Swords

That blade sure looks a lot like a T’au weapon if you ask us. In particular Commander Farsight’s blade. Aka the Dawn Blade:

Note the handle and the two knobs above the hilt. Looks pretty darn close to us! But that hand that’s reaching for it isn’t a T’au hand. It’s got too many fingers. The wrist also has been scratch with 3 cuts. Maybe that’s all symbolism. Or maybe is just an artists discretion. In either case, it sure is interesting to consider! Plus we got that other teaser about models coming in 2023…

We might be in for a treat with the T’au and the Arks of Omen. Also what color does Farsight wear? Red? Hmm…that’s very interesting…

Are we about to have a Horde of blood thirsty T’au on our hands? What about the rats? Maybe those are T’au drones dressed like rats?!
