After a quiet pre-order release, WotC puts up 4th level adventure from Keys from the Golden Vault. “Prisoner 13” is on D&D Beyond for free.

After quietly releasing the newest adventure Keys from the Golden Vault for pre-order amid the OGL saga, Wizards of the Coast is back with more promo for their upcoming book. This time, it’s a free adventure.

The 4th-level adventure, titled “Prisoner 13”, explores a prison-themed heist. Wizards of the Coast has previously released bite-sized chunks of books on D&D Beyond for free. The chance to check out an adventure may be another tool in WotC’s arsenal to try and lure canceled subscribers back to the platform. Though even a free D&D Beyond account will unlock the adventure.

Prisoner 13” – A 4th-level Adventure FromKeys From the Golden Vault

Set in the frigid landscape of Icewind Dale, Prisoner 13 will take players to the icy reaches of Revel’s End. Revel’s End first appeared in Rime of the Forstmaiden, set up as “an impenetrable fortress carved from a tall, blade-shaped rock, situated on the shore of the Sea of Moving Ice.”

But, the adventure isn’t a prison break. Instead, it’s a heist to break in and then extract information from one of the prison’s earliest inmates. D&D Beyond provided a glimpse of the adventure waiting within:

On the world of Toril, in the frozen reaches north of the Sword Coast, lies an impenetrable fortress built to house the region’s most dangerous criminals. One of this prison’s earliest inmates, a dwarf known as Prisoner 13, spends her days in seeming quiet and solitude while secretly pulling the strings of a spy network that spans much of the continent. She holds the key to a treasure she stole from a dwarf clan. In this heist, the characters must infiltrate the prison, retrieve the key from Prisoner 13 (found in a tattoo on her hand), and return the key to Varrin Axebreaker, the dwarf who hired them.

The adventure includes some helpful tools, including a player map (pictured above) which may help players plan their heists. Reading through the adventure outlines some of the mechanics Keys from the Golden Vault will be leaning on. Including a new “Suspicion” mechanic that will increase from 1-6 over the course of an adventure.

There are also patrol details and other information which seem to focus on giving the player characters tools to plan a heist. If not start running it right away.
