Looks like there are two more entrants to the Boarding Patrol field. The Aeldari are coming and so are the Drukhari!

I was just speculating yesterday about how the Boarding Patrols are the “new Start Collecting!” offerings. We’ll have to see if they stick around that $110 price point or if they will increase. Signs are pointing to a jump up to $125…which means they are getting really close to the Combat Patrol range. Regardless, Games Workshop has announced two more boxed sets and as you can tell from the title, the Aeldari are coming to play.

“Both flavours of pointy-eared pirates will shortly be receiving their own Boarding Patrol boxes – two deadly and fleet-footed forces that you can play out of the box using the free Mustering Rules.”

Boarding Patrol Aeldari

Contents:

  • Jain Zar
  • 5x Howling Banshees
  • 20x Corsairs – either Voidreavers or Voidscarred

This is a curious mix as Jain Zar is leading the charge with her Banshees but the inclusion of the 20 Corsairs is strange. Thematically, it’s maybe more appropriate than say 20 Guardians…but I do wonder about the rationale behind this combination of units. It’s probably effective in the tight confines of Boarding Action games so it’s got that going for it.

Contents:

  • Succubi
  • 20x Wyches
  • 5x Incubi

So the Drukhari are a bit more specialized for the CQC of a Boarding Action. With the heavily armored Incubi and the fast moving Wyches this Boarding Patrol does present some serious threats. However, if you can catch them in a long corridor they might be in for a bad time.

Now, if you saw these forces and thought “wait, haven’t we seen this pairing before?” Yes…kind of. You might be thinking of the Blood of the Phoenix boxed set from a couple years ago:

This was where my mind went on account of Jain Zar vs Incubi. However, we don’t have Drazar in the Drukhari Boarding Patrol and obviously there aren’t any vehicles in either of these packs. So, if your memory was a little hazy like mind was, no this isn’t the Blood of the Phoenix box re-packaged.

One final note, if these are going to go for $125 when they hit retail, you might want to consider looking at the Combat Patrol boxes. The Drukhari option only overlaps with 5 more Incubi (which isn’t a bad thing). And the Aeldari Combat Patrol is entirely different — both model-wise and thematically.

Boarding Patrol or Combat Patrol? Why not both!?
