Games Workshop dropped a new chart showing the win-rates of the armies in Age of Sigmar. There’s some massive meta shake-ups!

It’s still pretty early in the new Age of Sigmar General’s Handbook season but there’s enough data out there to get some preliminary findings. Let’s take a quick look at the data and then talk about some of the factors to consider.

via Warhammer Community

“The dominant forces in Matched Play at present are the Beasts of Chaos, the Lumineth Realm-lords, and the Disciples of Tzeentch, though honourable mention should go to the Gloomspite Gitz, who have surged from their lowly position near the bottom of the table last month to a 52% win-rate.”

Win-Rate — Season of the Galletian Champions

There’s some big shake-ups in the data. For starters, his season really shifted the focus from Bounty Hunters and Galletian vets to the new Galletian Champions. What that really means is that foot heroes are making a strong showing and really swinging for those extra VPs in games.

There are some big shocks in terms of win-rate shuffling. As Noted by GW the biggest jump has been the Gloomspite Gitz who have gone from the bottom of the ladder to an impressive 52% win-rate.

It’s also worth noting that they just recently got their new book, the case is also the same for the Beasts of Chaos, too. That actually may of had a strange impact on the data for a couple of reasons. First up, because their books are relatively recent, many events may not have allowed their new Battletomes to be used in the timeframe.

That could mean that the data is a bit muddled as some of the events were using their previous incarnations with the new season rules. Or they could have even used the old seasonal rules as a “last hurrah” because of the timing. That’s why it’s important to note the dates here as this is the most current win-rate data as of February 27, 2023.

That said, two armies that DIDN’T get a new Battletome and are having strong showings are the Lumineth Realm-lords and the Disciples of Tzeentch. It sure looks like with the changes in the GHB they were able to take advantage of the meta shift and ride that wave to the top.

One bigger shock was the underperformance of the new Slaves to Darkness Battletome. This is another weird one because while they technically didn’t get their new release until mid-January, the army box DID have the new book. So maybe it was a case of folks knew what was coming before they actually arrived. I think this could also be a case of a lot of new people taking up the S2D mantle and it could be a combo of “lots of new players playing a new army” and needing to get their sea legs as it were.

Personally, I say let’s give it another month to see the real impacts of these Battletomes before we call them real winners/losers. There were a lot of shifting variables overall and I think that may have skewed some win-rate data.

It’s probably going to be a bumpy couple of months as more new Battletomes are on the way, too. That said, I don’t think the new Battletomes are going to hurt either army in the current meta. And if I had to make a prediction, I think they might even stay up there in the win-rates category.

This is definitely a “Wait and See” moment with the data. It’s too early to tell!
