A new batch of Shadows Over Innistrad Remastered appears. And with it, everyone’s favorite mayor is back in town.

Actually I’m not sure if the Mayor of Avabruck is anyone’s favorite mayor, come to think about it. Sure, he transforms into a werewolf 3/3 that you can spit out wolves and buff them at the same time. But that’s all tied to some fairly punishing mechanics.

Which aren’t nearly as rose-colored as you might remember. Even so, there are some old favorites in the latest batch of Shadows Over Innistrad Remastered spoilers.

And here we are. The Mayor of Avabruck/Howlpack Alpha. Not a bad card. But it makes you realize just how brutal that “no spells cast” rule really was. It basically just eats into any momentum you might be trying to build, especially in green. But now that these cards are crashing back into Arena, perhaps this is a way for Alchemy to experiment with those rules. Make everything Day/Nightbound.

In the meantime, here’s three more cards. A Doomed Traveler, who becomes a flying ghost, Faithless Looting, which is amazing, and Avacyn’s Pilgrim, aka the Human Llanowar.

Speaking of spirits, here’s Lingering Souls which can flashback and let you create a grand total of four 1/1s with flying. Which is very efficient. And who doesn’t love having ghosts just hanging around for whatever you need them for?

Let’s not forget Odric, Lunarch Marshal and possessor of the sword from Halo. He makes sure everyone goes all in on abilities. As long as they have them in the first place. Which, Thalia, Heretic Cathar does. See her before she became a Gitrog Monster-riding Legend.

It wouldn’t be Innistrad without ol’ Griselbrand there, trying to ruin everything for you. Once he gets out onto the battlefield, the race is on to see whether he gets removed or your opponent does first.
