Warhammer 40K Meta Hotness: War Dog Executioner

The latest meta hotness showing up for Warhammer 40K uses Chaos Knight War Dog Executioners to put some long-range pressure on the enemy.

The War Dog Executioner is an amp’d up Autocannon Predator from the Chaos Knights codex.  You get two 2d3, flat 3 damage, and AP -2 Autocannon shots that can basically shoot the entire field.  On top of that damage profile, they also move fast, are tougher in general than other vehicles for Chaos, and get an Invulnerable save to help keep them alive longer than those dang terrible boxes.

If you are a Chaos player, it would be good for you to get ahold of three of these, magnetize their armies, and get you all the options for your Chaos armies. In fact – this unit helps solve a lot of issues for many Chaos armies – from World Eaters, Daemons, and even Chaos Space Marines.

War Dog Executioner 101

Hey, it is the baby Chaos Knight with longe range weapons that are sitting at a flat 3 damage.  Does that Terminator fail a save – well, he is dead with the flat 3 damage.  Do you need to hit that giant monster across the field – here, take some damage.  Do you know how many Greater Daemons I threw wounds on during an event with three of these?

Stratagems and Favours

Oh – you want to burn two CPs and have exploding 6’s on a single unit?  You can do that with this unit.  You throw Dreadblade on them and get a nice +1 to hit versus Vehicles and Monstrous Creatures?  Do you want a Favour that gives you some CP regen effects when your opponent spends CP?  There are so many things this little unit can do to help shore up some of your damage potential.

Be Aggressive – Be Be Aggressive!

Chaos works as a pressure list. Having some War Dog Executioners in the back holding objectives, throwing damage out, and just keeping your back end clear of enemies is a powerful thing.  They might not score as well as some of the backfield options in Orks, but they can at least do damage.  This lets the rest of your army go aggressive and wide to get there and start wrecking stuff. Let your opponent figure out how to get out of the body vice you’ve left them in.

Example list using War Dog Executioners

Nick Wenker took this to a 4th place finish at the Rocky Mountain Open run by Frontline Gaming.  He was playing for the win in the finals and just lost to another Pressure Ork Goff list.  Utilizing the War Dogs to scout around the edges and throw out damage was an important factor to Nick wrecking stuff over the weekend. I expect to see more of these War Dogs show up in other Chaos Lists.

War Dog Executioner Tips and Tricks

Pick good targets, skate around the edges, and throw out long-range damage while your friends get close and wreck your opponent’s stuff.  This is about utilizing all your tools to help your Chaos armies wreck the tabletop.  Plus, you can make a really sweet conversion to match whatever Chaos armies you decide to play. Bitz up anything from Khorne-looking Jugger War Dogs to crazy chaotic Daemonic Engine Monsters.
